Word on the Street : Latest Foodie News

Are your holidays planned by courses, not cities? Do special events secretly stand for ‘special menus’ in your household?

If you’re only half paying attention to this article because someone just walked by with fries, here’s the scoop: you might be a food addict (but we forgive you). Here’s the good news: you’ll find your weekly fix at the G&G. From whispers of new restaurants to the latest in feasting events, we’ve got the hook-up on dinners, degustations, and do-not-miss fare!

Thought the biggest moment of your life would be walking down the aisle? Close, but no cigar – it’s actually when you walk down Isles Lane. The new gastropub’s set to open in mid-April, branding Post Office Square with a whole new flavour. Think crispy fried prawns with burnt lemon aioli, haloumi chips, and carnivore-worthy fare – including a whole suckling pig. Intrigued? Catch up here. Time to beef up those cravings, Brisbane! The Gambaro team are settling in for the launch of Black Hide by Gambaro, a mid-year addition to Treasury Brisbane. We can’t vouch for your poker skills, but we’d put high steaks on this spot. E’cco, E’cco, E’cco! The top-rated bistro didn’t fall quiet for long. After closing its doors in November, E’cco’s unveiling brand new digs in Newstead this week! The team’s also looking ahead to July, where they’ll open The Terrace, an outdoor space with the good-lookin’ menu to match. Happy feasting! We’re still losing our minds over news of Happy Valley, set to bring the team from Rick Shores closer to home. Set to raise the curtains in late May, the new Valley spot will combine Hong Kong-inspired fare with flavours a little closer to home. Grab the scoop here! Be warned, Brisbane: this isn’t your garden variety space. James Street’s Arc + Family is swapping potting mix for pastries in April with the launch of el’ rosa. The pot spot’s transforming their back garden into a courtyard and event space draped in greenery, cacti, and (ever-importantly) your caffeine fix. Pacific Fair’s Rivea has moved just a hop, skip, and a jump down the road – transforming the old Bin89 venue into Rivea Italian. Old fans will be stoked to know the old Rivea fare hasn’t disappeared, with their killer pizzas, pasta, and antipasto still repping the GC Italian fare.

Ah, the luck o’ the Irish! Snag your greenest duds and wander over to Eagle Farm Racecourse for a St Patrick’s Day to remember! (Or, more likely, not.) From Guinness to Gaelic dances, this is one not to miss – and through the G&G, you can bring a friend for free! I scream; you scream; people give us strange looks, but who cares? It’s ALL YOU CAN EAT GELATO. Yup, you read that right: whether you’re a choc, strawberry, or vanilla fan, you can cram all the flavours of the foodie rainbow into one wonderful day at La Macelleria Gelateria West End! For just $10 (nope, not a typo) you’ll score All You Can Eat Gelato on Sunday 25 March. Now that’s a scoop. Stencil it in: the Brisbane Street Art Festival is back in town! Artists from the world over will paint Brisbane every colour under the sun from March 31 – April 15. From the Powerhouse to Fish Lane, there’s plenty to spot, so keep an eye out! We hope you’re ready to rosé, ‘cause Welcome to Bowen Hills has just announced a Rosé and Cheese Festival! It’s set to take over the food truck hub on March 24 & 25, with everything from flaming cheese wheels to cheesy arancini on the cards. Got something delicious to share?
