Word On The Street: Foodie News

Call us the hottest hits of 2008 because we’re So Fresh right now.

And by fresh, we mean that we’re currently unsure if our glistening appearance is due to highlight or sweat. If you’re looking to freshen up your dining this season, read on; we’ve got the scoop on the best new eateries and restaurants popping up this summer.

Where we’re going, we don’t need belts.

What do you get when two dads join forces? Fortitude Valley’s latest brewery is no joke, with brewery tanks, a kitchen, and a taproom taking up the space previously occupied by a dance studio. Soapbox Beer will open Thursday, slinging boutique brews and seasonal rotations from Gipps Street, so you’d better believe we’ve got our pints at the ready.

There’s noughting better than a good croissant, and the director of Tweed Head’s new bakery has his heart set on the world’s best. Baked at Ancora is the latest venture from restaurateur Mark Wilson and Bam Bam Bakehouse’s Gavin Rudd, serving innovative pastries and artisan breads to rival even the finest Parisian bakeries.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the announcement of Howard Smith Wharves’ much-anticipated wine bar, and the day is finally here. ARC Dining and Wine Bar will open December 17, with an extensive wine collection curated by award-winning sommelier Ian Trinkler and menu by acclaimed head chef Alanna Sapwell of Sydney’s Saint Peter. With these two restaurant stars colliding, ARC is set to go off with a big bang – and our excitement is immeasurable.

Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da SNACK MAN! Brought to you by the brothers behind Happy Boy, Snack Man is the wine and cocktail bar designed to fill the gaps of its popular sibling. Focusing on Chinese inspired snacks, each dish is taken from different regions of China – including the barbeque chicken steamed buns, crispy chicken ribs, and mushroom dumplings.

Heads up, folks; Indooroopilly Shopping Centre is finally opening the doors to its latest edition – Betty’s Burgers! They’re a staple of our Noosa diets, and now the popular burger joint is set to serve up their mouth-watering beef, chicken, and crispy pork belly burgers to all this month. Better yet, their famous concretes will also be joining the Indro menu, so watch this space.

Vegans rejoice, Burleigh Heads will welcome an entirely vegan restaurant on December 21. BKA Vegan Restaurant & Bar takes plant-based dining to an enticing new level, with modern-Australian fusion dishes like mushroom satay ramen, mixed mushrooms on cauliflower puree, and nasi campur with house-made tempeh.

Let’s be serious, here – buffets are the best thing to happen to mankind. We’re always up for endless eats, and The Star Gold Coast has answered our cries for more with an entirely buffet-based eatery, Harvest. With live kitchen stations, an open-plan space and an outdoor terrace, you’ll never want to leave.
