Word on the street: foodie news

Hi, hungry.

Brunch and dessert are two of our favourite things, and Brisbane is definitely serving up the goods this week…

South Bank’s Denim Co has launched a new late-night dessert menu, set to satisfy all you sweethearts out there! Dishing up sugary eats from 5pm to late, menu highlights include a colourful deconstructed pavlova, a crowd-favourite sticky date pudding and a fully loaded lava cake complete with toasted marshmallow and caramel popcorn. Our personal fave is the deluxe brownie, topped with creamy vanilla ice cream, roasted pistachios, and a hot chocolate fudge that we want pumped directly into our veins. Oh, and on Friday,  March 6, Denim Co will be dishing up 100 free brownies from 5pm… Hectic.

On a less sweet and more bitter note, southside hotspot The Jam Pantry is set to close its doors on Sunday, March 29. From now until then, they’ll be opening their doors seven days a week to plate up tasty breakies and treats as one final hurrah, before owner Naomi Zavackas moves onto new and tasty things at Wandering Cooks. Turn that frown upside down and stay tuned!

Speaking of brunch, W Brisbane is set to dish up an epic (and boozy) feast on the first Sunday of each month, kicking off this Sunday, March 8. We’re drooling at the thought of the charcuterie and cheese smorgasbord, succulent seafood towers and a Sunday roast with all the trimmings, washed down with Chandon, Belvedere cocktails, mimosas and more.

Okay, one more brunchy thang for you, Brissy. Mark Sunday, March 22 down on your calendar and prepare your tum for some German goodness. Das Brunch at Munich Brauhaus is a new monthly all-you-can-eat mega-brunch series that kicks off with an autumn-inspired menu, featuring bites like schnitties, pork belly, german snags, and käsespätzle – a variation of macaroni cheese with grilled bacon, hash browns, creamy mashed potato and sauerkraut. Also included is a fresh cold section AND desserts, and you can also opt to add a two-hour drinks package to keep things interesting…

Also announced this week was the Wynnum Manly Seafood Festival, popping up bayside on Monday, May 4. We can’t think of a yummier way to spend a public holiday, than by stuffing ourselves silly with bugs, crabs, prawns, oysters, scallops and all the fish you could ever ask for. On top of the sea eats, kick back at the licensed bar and soak up the live music, carnival rides and games, and enjoy that bay breeze!

After the success of their exploration dinner series of 2019, Tai Tai is showcasing local craft brews that their first of the 2020 series. The Exploration Dinner Series: Craft Beer will be held on Thursday, March 26, and will pair Tai Tai’s tastiest dishes with the best of Newstead Brewing Co.’s brews. Munch on four-hour braised brisket rendang with fragrant coconut rice, crispy pork hock with green apple slaw and sweet chilli jam, lemongrass whole baby squid with tomato chilli relish, before finishing with a lychee sorbet with almond jelly and Zhenjiang vinegar glaze. Nab a spot here.

Good luck fitting in any more food after all those brunches…
