Word on the street: foodie news

From the suburbs to the City, Brisbane is stepping up its foodie game one opening at a time.

We predict that this week’s foodie news will book out your calendar for the year ahead.

The poké bowl craze is still in full swing in Brisbane, and Cheeky Poke Bar is taking the lead with the announcement of two new locations in 2020. The first is set to be in Westfield Garden City’s dining precinct, with a venue similar to their flagship restaurant in Newstead. They’ll then make their way into the City as part of Ulster Lane’s redevelopment, set to please all those who forget to pack their lunch for work.

A Spanish-influenced metamorphosis has taken place at California Lane, where you can now sip on cocktails and munch on bite-sized deliciousness (also known as tapas). Replacing dessert joint The Stand, Poco is set to satisfy snackers, with their menu featuring the likes of popcorn cauliflower, fried chicken baos, salt and pepper calamari and cider-glazed chorizo. Pre-drinkers will also be highly pleased, with Poco offering an array of cocktails to wash all the food down and start your Saturday night on the right note (and yes, sangria is definitely on the agenda).

Suburban Social Neighbourhood Bar & Kitchen is blessing the ‘burbs of Brisbane one location at a time, with their new venue set to hit the streets of Holland Park in March this year. Bringing you some laid-back vibes for a friendly hang surrounded by your fave people, you’ll be able to enjoy some great bites and brews from their newly developed menu that promises to satisfy vegans and meat lovers alike. To quench the thirst, they’ll also be pouring craft beers, boutique wines and Australian made spirits. For all those southsiders, you’ve found your new local!

Sweet Baby Doughnut, The Sunshine Coast Dessert Festival is making a comeback this year and we’re beyond excited! On February 15, you can satisfy that sweet spot with an onslaught of desserts coming your way, including delectable brownies, dessert dumplings, crepes and much more. Rumour on the street is that the dessert king himself, Adriano Zumbo, will also make an appearance, so add this one to your calendar and grab your tickets here

Ubers at the ready, there’s a bit of travelling to do but it’s all worth it!
