Word On The Street: Foodie News

Winter is our favourite time of the year, if for no other reason than the lack of sweating makes contouring our faces a cinch and we can hide that we’re fond of seconds under layers.

We’ll never judge you for getting dessert, especially when we know what’s popping up around Brisbane!

Let Minnow is splashing into our weekends with extended trading hours! Now open Friday-Sunday until 7pm, the Clayfield café is slinging Spanish and Australian wines, beers and ciders as well as fishbowl style cocktails and aquarium share jugs alongside Spanish style tapas. Stay tuned for their new kitchen in the coming months!

Don’t get crabby, snap to it! King Crab Co is scuttling down Oxford Street, offering up an iconic take on crab boils and crustaceans, specialising in Cajun Louisiana-style ‘crab in a bag.’ We’ve already sent someone to hold a place in line for us because Alaskan and Australian crab with miso butter and lime, fresh crab cakes, lobster rolls and prawn po’ boys just sound too good to be true. We won’t have to wait long to dig our claws in, King Crab Co should be opening mid to late July.

Not just happy just selling shiny cars (we don’t know anything about them lets be real), the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Brisbane showroom in the CBD is getting TURNT with a brand new restaurant joining the space with it. Motorwagen is the brand child of Sam Pask (ex-OTTO, Esquire, Urbane) and will be lead by Dylan Cashman. Serving breakfast and lunch Monday – Friday, plus dinner Thursday – Sunday, Blackstar Coffee and a killer cocktail list. Expect it to rev into your heart in mid-August.

If you’re one of the lucky ones with a Splendour ticket in your hot little hands – your Splendour bender just got even better. Matt Moran is bringing his award-winning restaurant Chiswick to you. The two hour long-table feast will include share plates of fried pickles with labneh, spanner crab and avocado tacos, roasted beer can chicken and mouth-watering lamb shoulder, as well as specialty cocktails. Regretting not getting a ticket? We are. Book your spot here.

We’re seeing red, in the best way. Shiraz Showdown is underway at the Osbourne Hotel, and we’ve got our glasses raised and ready. Devour juicy steaks and spicy drops at the Pepperjack Steak Dinner, or work your way through five decadent courses at the Yelland & Papps degustation.

Feel like you need to give the grapes a break?  Head over to Four Points by Sheraton Brisbane. The boutique hotel has joined forces with Newstead Brewing Co to create a Beer Degustation Dinner! Drool over lemon and prawn arrancini, duck terrine, slow-cooked beef striploin with cassoulet and baked cheesecake – all paired perfectly with craft beers from the Brissie brewery. Book in early, spaces are limited!

If you haven’t already checked out the super adorable Macho Macho, than we are genuinely baffled at what you’ve been up to. The Macho Macho Winter Supper Club is muscling in on Wednesday 25thJuly with a stellar menu including pizza fritta, chestnut soup, gnocchi with oxtail ragu, lamb cutlet and macho cake. You’ll also receive a glass of bubbles or beer on arrival for just $70. Reserve your place here!

THE foodie trail of the year is almost upon us – James Street Food & Wine Trail. Wind your way through one of Brisbane’s trendiest streets as you devour street-style food from some of the precincts best. Sip on bevvies from pop-up bars and people watch from underneath the fig trees. Register here.
