Word on the street: foodie news

Alright, since when did we step into Doc’s DeLorean and zoom into August?

With September on the horizon, it’s probably (almost) time to renew our gym membership and start working on that summer bod. In the meantime, get ready for a carb-filled week of Italian fine-dining, new sweet treats and free wine.

August, come at us!

Just in time for the warmer months (who are we kidding, we’ve been eating ice cream all winter long anyway), get your spoons at the ready as a brand-spanking-new ice creamery makes big waves in South Bank. Hailing from sunny Noosa and oozing an uber cutesy charm, you’ll be feeling as happy as a kid in a candy store as Happy Pops swings open its doors on Thursday, August 15. Boasting handmade icecream, rich brownies on a stick, and delicious customizable delights, this is one sweet treat you’ll be repeating alllllll summer long…

Proving Brisbane is becoming a magnet for some of the world’s best chefs, prepare to experience a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience as two-Michelin star chef Massimilano Mascia makes his Australian debut as he takes the reigns at Bacchus Restaurant on Tuesday, October 22 for five flavour-filled nights, continuing in the footsteps of his uncle, Valentino Marcattili (who stole our hearts when he brought a luxe five-course degustation to Bacchus last September). With only 45 seats available each night, secure your place here before they run out.

Prepare to meet your newest night-out bae as the Baedeker Bar undergoes a sophisticated revamp to open the glamorous The Garden Bar on Friday, August 9. Oozing old-world charm within a lush, leafy green haven, chuck on your heels and gather up your friends to sample award-winning wines, innovative cocktails, and moreish share plates. Pinkies up!

Looking to channel your inner master chef? Hop, skip and spring into the 70th Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers this September as superchef Adrian Richardson leads the culinary charge on Friday, September 20. Swapping the TV screens for the Toowoomba stage, learn from the culinary king himself as he delivers a series of entertaining cooking demonstrations. The best bit? With over 50 dining and wine stalls celebrating flavours straight from the charming country paddocks and vineyards, you can savour the best flavours of Queensland over 10 glorious days. Strewth, we’ll see you there.

Think you’ve heard it all? Think again! Fine-dining flair is just the tip of the iceberg this month as wining and dining takes centre stage. Step into City Winery on Wednesday, August 7 for free wine tastings of Queensland’s Terra Di Granito. Whether you prefer to swig from the glass or bottle (the more the merrier though, right?) pop in anytime from 5pm to 8:30pm to taste it yourself.

Phew. Stick a fork in us and take us back to February. This year is going by too damn fast.
