Say adios to jet lag and experience your own sunny slice of Europe in Brisbane this August, as a new Mediterranean eatery opens its doors in Newstead. Described as an industrial cocktail oasis, step inside The Matriarch’s majestic iron gates to find a luxe interior fit for a queen, with crystal chandeliers and soft velvet booths. Assemble your squad to enjoy a selection of theatrical Insta-worthy cocktails, gourmet tapas, and plenty of vegan and vegetarian bites. 

Hot diggity dawg, from the sunny Mediterranean coast to Germany, who said you didn’t experience European summer?! Snag a winner as Brisbane’s newest The Bavarian cranks open its doors in The Barracks on August 2. Boasting a whopping 600-seat eatery alongside their famous line-up of German-style dishes and wealth of tap beers (you better believe steins are included), you’ll want to set an early alarm as they give away 500 free German snags to celebrate. We’ll see you there. 


If there is one holiday that truly deserves global recognition and a serious party, it’s National Tequila Day. Whether you love it, hate it, or can no longer smell it without gagging (no shame, we’ve all been there), tequila has certainly provided us with many fond memories that certainly deserve celebration. Don’t make a pour decision–down the shots as Pepe’s Newmarket calls the shots on July 24 with over 150 versions of tequila available (but hey, who’s counting?!). We’ll bring the lime, you bring the salt. 

After recovering from Wednesday night, blaze a trail as the annual James Street Food and Wine Trail kicks off on Thursday. Boasting the largest celebration yet, prepare yourself for a four-day eating extravaganza of James Street’s finest cuisine that will likely require a full wardrobe upsize afterwards. 

With winter still seemingly settling into the Brisbane scene (are we the only ones still reaching for skirts? Winter where you at?!) be transported to a magical Winter Woodland as the Regatta Hotel provides all the warm fuzzies in the form of cosy booths, hot cocktails, and winter food specials. Round up your besties for a boozy brunch occasion, or rug up for a uber snug evening.
