Word On The Street: Foodie News

There’s no rest for the wicked or our waistlines this week with a whole new wave of foodie news coming in hot and fresh from the kitchen!

Kiss the Berry are bringing their smoothies and acai bowls to West End with their fifth store opening September 1 in the Fish Lane precinct! The new store will focus more on dining in rather than their classic grab and go approach. Pre-work breakfast anyone?

Break out the welcome baskets, Camp Hill is welcome a new friend in August! From the super team that brought us the CBD’s Felix for Goodness, Florence is moving into the ‘burbs and bringing with her all-day breakfast and lunch, seven days a week– as well as a retail deli/larder with house made ferments, pickles and preserves. We are suddenly VERY HUNGRY.

Roma Street is getting a glow up! The very ugly building (face it, you were thinking it) is getting a massive makeover in 2020 – and becoming Brisbane’s biggest entertainment precinct. Brisbane Live will feature a 17,000 seat live performance area, new hotels, cultural facilities and of course – bars and restaurants. Keep your eye on this one!

It feels like we’ve aged a decade since plans for James Street’s ‘The Calile’ were announced, but come September the doors are opening! The 178 room hotel will feature a boutique dining precinct and be home to Hellenika Greek restaurant, serving up banquets, seafood and seriously sexy spanakopita.

Feel like there’s been a hole in your heart since Doughnut Time closed? Dry your tears friends, they’re back with a new owner, new flavours and new locations! Stay tuned for more info.

Burger nerds, start your engines because Burger Fest is back baby! Rolling back into our lives for the second year, Station Street is shutting down for massive carb consumption on Saturday August 25. Seven bun slingers will be competing for Brisbane’s Best Burger with Lucky Egg, Greaser, 5 Boroughs, Miss Kay’s, Burger Project, MooFree Burgers and The Triffid will be behind the grills, with classic and exclusive burgers available on the day. There will also be burger eating competitions, live music and beer from Stone & Wood.

We’ve barely recovered from last year but it’s knocking at our door again! Raise your glass to the Ekka for blessing us with a mid-week public holiday as Espresso Martini Festivalreturns to Fish Lane on August 14. Tickets are $45 and include an espresso martini on arrival to kick start your night and a series of tasty bites from Hello Please and Ol’ School. Tickets available here.

Prefer your coffee in the morning? The inaugural Bakery Lane Craft Coffee Festival is putting a kick into our weekend Saturday August 4. From coffee eclairs, cupcakes and tiramisu to steaming hot cups of Joe – you might not sleep for a week afterwards but it’ll be totally worth it.

Revel in all things local and lovely with the Regatta Fair in August! Running August 3 – 5 the Regatta will showcase a series of wines, ciders and sparkling – and flavoursome winter warmers. Friday will celebrate International Beer Day with over 50 beers available, and Sunday will see the hotel hosting Battle of the BBQ with 12 teams battling for the title of Barbecue King. Tickets available here!
