Loosen up your buttons baby (uh-huh!) and prepare to brace the cold.

The start of July means it’s finally time to dive head first into the ‘serious winter coats’ section of our wardrobe, and we’ve got the perfect foodie joints to strut your coats into, Tyra Banks-style. 


Mornings never looked more brew-tiful at Morningside with the upcoming opening of Venzin Group’s fresh take on the coffee takeaway experience with Monocle Coffee. Set to open mid-July, this funky cafe will serve up high-end coffee roasted alongside plenty of delicious ready-made eats. Think boutique salads, fresh pastries, and plenty of vegan and gluten-free options to graze like-a-happy-cow on. 

With breakfast sorted, you’ll be feeling super fire at the reopening of Superfly Funk Eye, newly dubbed Superfly Pizza. If the name doesn’t give it away (which it should), Superfly will one-step two-step away from its Japanese finger food origins and transformed into a delicious carb hub, offering classic pizzas and scrumptious sides. Enjoy hand-made dough and a revised selection of wines and Italian-inspired cocktails when it reopens this month! 

Forget a roast dinner, ‘tis the season for jumping into crab and crayfish at One Fish Two Fish as their newest special menu edition, Crab & Cray Cray Season, takes off! Available Friday and Saturday nights for the month of July, the standout special is the Feast of the Crab banquet, available for just $49. Claw at tempura zucchini flowers filled with blue swimmer crab, charcoal bao with crispy soft shell crab and sriracha, Fraser Isle spanner crab croquettes, and razor prawn ravioli with creamy Fraser Isle spanner crab sauce.

Don’t cha wish your yum cha was hot as Sydney’s? Rejoice Brisbanites, there’s a new contemporary Chinese restaurant set to open in Brisbane next Monday. Anita Fung, the founder of Sydney’s Phoenix group of Chinese restaurants, plans to pack a punch as she comes to sunny Queensland next week. Yum cha is set to kick off at 11am daily, but diners will be able to enjoy dumplings galore, with fresh crab meat, scallop and caviar, and king prawn dumplings available all day. 


While snow might not fall in Brisbane, we’re pretty damn good at improvising. Our favourite rooftop bar Sixteen Antlers is bringing fire, ice, and all things nice this month with their winter-themed, Insta-worthy bites and bevs, perfect for a cosy date night or a fun evening with friends. Feeling adventurous? Channel your inner Tonya Harding and show off your best triple axel on the pop-up skating rink in King George Square downstairs.
