Hey there winter, where you been?

While we’ve been waiting religiously for July 1 to dive into our “serious winter coats”, these Brisbane venues have been busy warming up delicious new venues and events.


One of our favourite southside spots to snack, Superfly Funk Eye, is mixing things up (and we don’t just mean cocktails).  This suburban fave has become a regular among locals, so the team has decided to switch things up in an effort to increase their offering and enable their staff to expand a little. While we haven’t heard anything official, word on the street (see what I did there?) is that pizzas will be pumping out of the kitchen in no time!

Across the river on Petrie Terrace, everyone’s favourite purveyor of pork knuckle and beers-as-big-as-your-head, The Bavarian, has announced that they’re taking over the prime real estate formerly occupied by the mammoth Hog’s Breath Cafe at the top of Caxton Street! The 600-seat establishment will have 40 brews on tap, including Bavarian-style craft specials by Pirate Life and 4 Pines, which will be released with the venue’s launch in late July.

In other new straight outta Bavaria, Munich Brauhaus, The Bavarian and Beerhaüs now offer complimentary snacks from 4pm to 6pm every day! Options include mini sausage rolls with German mustard, sloppy fries with jalapeño and ranch, and Cajun popcorn chicken (that’s both fried chicken bites and popcorn!) with any drink purchase.

Wagyu looking at? One of Brisbane’s heritage venues is mooving towards winter dining with a seriously special new offering! Kennigo Social House’s Kobe @ Kennigo sees an exclusive Master Kobe rib fillet with a Japanese marble score of 11+ come to town – in fact, it’s the only place in Aus you can get this juicy piece of meat, and it’s only available while stocks last!

Thai there, feeling social? Taking over the spot vacated by Pizzeria Violetta/Sichuan Bang Bang, Paddington Social is set to shake things up for morning and night, with a mouthwatering cafe/bakery offering by day (including pimped-out croissants a la Melbourne’s Lune), and a fresh take on Thai by night. Expect massaman pulled pork puffs and solo-diner friendly plates of curries and rice (is that a challenge?).


Missed out on One Fish Two Fish’s first collab dinner with Ben Williamson? You’re in luck, as Red Fish Blue Fish is returning with local icon Philip Johnson of e’cco bistro! This time, a Euro seafood feast is on the table, with Philip and One Fish Two Fish’s chef/owner Daniel Miletic taking inspiration from the French Riviera to the Amalfi Coast to dish up stunners like spanner crab linguine and razor prawn ravioli. Tickets are available now and expected to sell out quickly like last time!

Talking about sophomore events selling quickly, new Fortitude Valley hotspot City Winery is juicing up to host the second of their monthly events, Wine Slam! On Tuesday, June 4, join in-house winemaker Dave Cush for one-and-a-half-hour exploration of the iconic wine varieties of Verona, alongside charcuterie and cheese! Tickets are just $59, with the event followed by a dinner special of Verona-style gnocchi!

The wining and dining doesn’t stop there, with an eatalian celebration of Italian Week (May 26-June 2) going down at West Village on Friday, 31 (now sold out!) as well as Saturday, June 1. For just $25, indulge in a long table feast of Italian cheese, pizza, and a glass of pinot, thanks to Salt Meats Cheese! Tickets to the Saturday dinner are still available here.
