The long weekend might be over, but we’re giving you something else to look forward to.

What’s more delicious than sleeping in and eating Easter eggs ‘til the sugar anxiety kicks in? Not a lot, tbh, but we’re doing our best by filling you in on new menus, venues, and food festivals to check out in your spare time (or your extra sick day taken to recover from long weekend withdrawals – we won’t tell your boss if you don’t tell ours).



Have you been keeping up with Gourmand & Gourmet (seriously, how delicious would our tv series be)? El Camino Cantina’s new Byron Bay location might ring a bell (and that’s because we touched on it here), but we’re back with the good word of an opening date! El Camino’s opening will roll out as a four-day launch weekend from Thursday, 25 April to Sunday, 28 April with everything from $2 tacos to happy hour from 4pm-6pm. There’ll be prizes galore, margaritas in store, and El Camino will donate $1 from every full-price margarita sold over the four-day launch weekend to the Byron Bay Community Benefit Fund. Wholesome, and beautifully boozy.

Botero House is bringing home the gourmet bacon, with new head chef Dan Brown at the helm. After working at some pretty impressive restaurants around the world, including Brisbane’s own Tartufo, Dan will focus on adding bold flavours to Botero’s ever-evolving breakfast and lunch menus. New highlights include fried gnocchi with denatured butternut pumpkin, burnt butter, sage and parmesan, arancini with prawn, avocado, dill and fennel, and house maple bacon with capsicum coulis, charred corn salad, maple popcorn, poached egg and rye. There’s no place like home.

Oi, get a load of Burleigh Heads’ newest Japanese bar and eatery. Oi Izakaya is set to open next month (we’ll fill you in on an opening date once we hear about it), specialising in okonomiyaki, gyoza, and Japanese-style cocktails crafted behind a luxurious whisky bar. That’s our safe word.

Newstead is stripping down to reveal Bare Naked Bowls on April 24! The Sydney-started superfood café will see bowls, smoothies, coffee, kombucha and raw treats put the ‘help me I’m trying’ in fitspo, giving every healthy hopeful on the go a chance to try something new. We’re here for it.

Jamie’s Espresso Bar is closing after 20 long years of caffeinating the Valley! Shutters will be pulled for the last time on April 28, and while we wish the owners good luck, we wish we could retire at 20.

Yo Clement Vachon, we see you! YoYo Bar & Restaurant’s new head chef has kicked things off with a stellar new menu, seeing eats such as za’atar squid with bunya nuts, pomelo and toasted kale put some juice in Noosa’s dining scene. Drink it in.



Brisbane’s iconic cultural celebration, Le Festival, is joining forces with Le Cordon Bleu to present Le Cordon Bleu Le Festival (say le again). Running from July 5-7, this year’s upgraded French festival will see the likes of cooking masterclasses, demonstrations and presentations alongside the usual suspects of wine, food, art and music. Le stoked.

Didn’t muster up the courage to audition for Masterchef? Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award is your time to shine. The global annual cooking competition is back, with successful Aussie entrants set to cook against country’s best talent this September at Fine Food Australia.
