Word on the street: foodie news

Get your calendar out (and for the love of gravy, keep that gym membership), you have a lot of indulging to do.

Thanks to our terrifyingly good internet stalking skills, we’ve dug up a lot of delicious dirt on what you can expect to be doing over the next few months.

Creepy? Hardly. Handy? Absolutely.

What’s cooking good looking? Hello Gorgeous is taking over Chester Street Bakery’s spot, opening late January! Plenty of cocktails and local drops will be ready to enjoy in a vibrant, open space, with enough oysters and stuffed chilli crab to have you sitting pretty.

The Terrace at e’cco is bringing affordable (yet bougie) lunches to a whole new level. Between 12pm-3pm on any day from Tuesday to Saturday, $20 will land you one starter and one main off the special menu! Now that’s living large on Macklemore’s thrift shop budget.

Fish Lane is making way for Maeve, its latest resident wine bar by the brains behind Hello Please. Aiming to open in March, you can expect the European-style wine bar to offer exceptional wine (shocker?), paired perfectly with an array of smaller bites or substantial dishes to enjoy either by the bar or in the dining room.

Feelin’ hot hot hot? Menulog is teaming up with Baskin Robbins to cool you tf down. Starting Wednesday January 15 and running ‘til the end of the week, you’ll want to get your sweaty hands on that Menulog app to get free ice cream delivered from the Baskin Robbins West End store (fingers crossed you’re within range!). Cutely crafted freebies include unicorn, monster and mermaid creations, ready for chomping (and your Instagram feed).

If you don’t know, now you know! Magnum Vegan is swooping into Aussie supermarkets from January 28, making for some very happy plant-based people (especially the ones in this office). Classic bois and almond ice creams will stick it to your expectations and then some, making for the perfect end to your summer! Guess Christmas came a little later this time round.

More. Mex! La Casita will be a chip off the old block (known as Fleet) come January 24. Residing in Brunswick Heads, locals and guests alike will be treated to authentic Mexican fair with fresh Australian ingredients.

Pipit is gonna get IT. A new solo project by Chef Ben Devlin (most recently of Halcyon House at Paper Daisy, with experience at Noma), will see his love of local seafood and foraged, native ingredients hit the plate at his very own restaurant. This a pleasant step forward in further developing the Northern Rivers region as a premium foodie hotspot, and we can’t wait for its opening (which is yet to be determined).

Heck, The Deck sounds pretty alright! West Village is teaming up with The Garden Pantry to bring you a series of mouth-watering events, with the first being a Lunar New Year party with a roaming three-course banquet from Mr. Bunz. Embrace the Year of the Pig and pig out, whilst enjoying a space decorated to the days with barrels of fortune cookies, draped lanterns and Chinese dragons. Drink in the rest of the detes (including free drinks with each meal!), and get tickets here.

Get ready to #sendnoods to all your Instagram buds, because the Sunshine Coast Asian Food Festival will be one deliciously photographic festival. From 1pm-6pm on February 16, your day will consist of Asian street food, cocktails, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment and more! You better like it spicy, because Spicers Tamarind Retreat will host the festival, with plenty of packages to suit your desires on the day. Find out more and get tickets here.
