Wilde Kitchen: Eat your way to healthy at this superfood spot
- 02 May 2017
Look, we’re not sure if they’re handing out humanitarian awards in this area yet, but we’ve done a whole lotta feasting for you guys. We’re talking taste-testing cakes, inhaling slabs of chocolate, and lining up brekky dates all over Brisbane. Purely for research, of course, and not at all linked to our insatiable quest for bacon. It’s a sacrifice, but we’re givers like that. Our point is – if you’re anything like us, it’s nice to give back to your body once in a while (in a non-ice-cream-related form), which is why we’re loving the nutritious, delicious plates at Teneriffe’s Wilde Kitchen. It’s officially time to take a walk on the Wilde side – and what better way than eating yourself healthy? Gut health Dear tummy, we’re sorry for all those full cream lattes. We’re especially sorry for the shots of tequila – but you’ll have to chat with the brain about that one; there’s clearly a wiring issue in the ‘extremely poor decision’ department. Please let us make it up to you with Wilde Kitchen’s assortment of fermented goodies – like kimchi and sauerkraut – or a brekky bowl of the coconut and lemon collagen panna cotta with muesli, fruit, and raw honeycomb. We good? Immunity She’s been harping on about it for years, but as it turns out, Mum is always right (just don’t let her know). Apparently, those bowls of chicken noodle soup she’s been toting to our sniffly selves every winter aren’t just an angle for Best Mum of the Year – they also might help us from getting sicker! Bone broth has been booming as a healthy winter option, but Wilde Kitchen’s bowls of broth with sliced beef, liver power and zucchini noodles are also a big ol’ boost to the immune system. Thank us when the rest of the office is cradling their tissue boxes. Healthy fats It’s a word we often link with unwanted wobbly bits (damn you, yoga pants), but fats are actually an important part of every healthy diet. If lowering cholesterol and helping out your ticker aren’t good enough reasons for you, trust us: Wilde Kitchen’s grilled salmon taco with guac and smashed avo on toast will do the trick. Protein We don’t care what the cool people at the gym are doing: say ‘no whey’ to protein powder – we’ve got a far more delicious delivery system. Wilde Kitchen’s high quality meats are a guilt-free way to get to the meat of the matter, repairing muscles, increasing energy, and keeping hair and nails lookin’ fab. Our fave Teneriffe health fans dole out plates of paleo fried chicken with kimchi slaw, and stick pork burritos with fried egg, pickled cucumber, and sriracha mayo, so we’re marking this one in the pro(tein) column. Cut refined sugar Alright, we’ll admit at taking up a scowl every time we push our trolley past the sugar-free gummy bears (we don’t know why anyone would do this, we just know it’s wrong). Even so, we’re aware that refined sugar is kinda-sorta-maybe not the best part of our diet. Don’t sweat the cutback if you’re trying to be good – a stop at Wilde Kitchen is sweet enough. Everything on site is totally refined sugar free, leaving you free to sweeten mornings with almond porridge and berries and protein pancakes with house made Nutella and coconut whip. Ready to start hearing the word healthy (without first hearing ‘eating a whole chocolate cake is probably not’)? Redesign your diet with this wildcard, and find Wilde Kitchen on the corners of Macquarie and Florence St, Teneriffe. Words by Samantha Chariton Keeping the G&G up to date with all the latest tasty tidbits requires a lot of double lattes and espresso martinis, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are really nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
