Where to sham-rock ‘n’ roll this St Patrick's Day

No need to grab your shamrocks this Paddy’s Day, ‘cause you don’t have to get lucky to find the pot of beer at the end of this rainbow. For the first time in years, St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday (sigh of relief from bosses everywhere), and we’re here to help you work your way around Brisbane, one Guinness at a time.
Mick O’Malley’s | Wintergarden
Talk about the Irish drinking spirit, not only is Mick O’Malley’s hosting one baller St. Patrick’s Day party chocked with Guinness pies, beers, and a stack of Irish entertainment – but they’re also hosting a St Patrick’s Day recovery party the next day. Bonus points for the people who don’t leave between the two – may you have the luck of the Irish getting through that hang over.
Glen Hotel | Eight Mile Plains
The Glen Hotel has got their green on (no pinches for them) and is celebrating in true Irish style. For a spectacular way to spend the day, The Glen is sporting whiskey promos, Guinness giveaways, and classic Irish nosh. Don’t forget the green beer! We’re pretty sure it’s the only way to make sure you’ve thoroughly celebrated.
The Brunswick Hotel | New Farm
Get ready to river dance! The Brunswick Hotel is hosting a party to keep you jigging ‘til the sun’s up. A traditional Irish folk band will be playing in the beer garden from 6pm, so enjoy the ‘tunes while you chow down on some customary Irish food. Pro tip: keep an eye out for the four-leaf clover; there are prizes to be won!
Pig ‘N’ Whistle | All locations
British pub franchise Pig ‘N’ Whistle is honoring its UK neighbours this March. The Riverside, CBD, Indooroopilly and West End venues will be hosting Irish live music events, traditional dancers, and authentic menu items.
Story Bridge Hotel | Kangaroo Point
If one day (and one restaurant) isn’t enough to sate your appetite for Guinness pies and bubbly lagers, Story Bridge Hotel is dedicating five days to this hops-based holiday. Celebrate under the bridge with Main St Bar, Deery’s Restaurant and the Shelter Bar each plating up scrumptious Irish fare. Grab some Irish potato cakes and slow-cooked lamb stew (for the first course!), and enjoy the barrelful of entertainment on offer.
Irish Murphy’s | Brisbane City
Irish food all day long, free flowing Guinness and live music until 3am, what else would you expect from a joint called Irish Murphey’s? Swing by this St Patrick’s Day and make believe you’re in the heart of Dublin (after enough beer it shouldn’t be too hard to forget which city you’re in).
Brewsvegas | Multiple Locations
Looking to turn St Patty’s into a week-long event? One word: Brewsvegas! The Brissie festival runs from the 10th through to the 19th, so thank us now and don’t blame us for the liver damage later. With parties and events being hosted across 50 venues throughout town, you’ll be spoilt for choices. One thing we do know: you’ll have enough beer at your fingertips to observe the traditions of the day!
Gilhooley’s | Brisbane City
Can you conceive of anything more Irish than Leprechaun Tossing? Neither can we. The party starts at 8am at Gilhooley’s with a traditional Irish breakfast and will continue into the wee small hours of the morning, there will be lots of music, lots of beer, and yes, Leprechaun Tossing (we’re still not 100% sure what this entails, but the winner gets $500, so sign us up!).
Finn McCool’s | Fortitude Valley
Don your best green attire and get ready to hit Finn McCool’s this St Patrick’s Day for day-long live entertainment, great giveaways and bar service until 5am… These guys are not for the feint of heart. So drink all night ‘til you can say ‘top o’the mornin’ to ya!’ Words by Georgia Casey.
