Where to head for Anzac Day in Brisbane

ANZAC Day is one of the very, very few days of the year you’ll catch us getting up before sunrise. While you’re up early attending the dawn service or other ANZAC Day events, take advantage of the extra time in your day by heading out to enjoy all the goings-on around Brisbane on April 25th. Why go back to bed when you’ve got one heck of an excuse to knock back a few tinnies, down as many sausage sizzle snags as we can fit in our gobs and somehow squeeze in a couple of ANZAC cookies as well? So once you’ve hit the dawn service and paid your respects, take your pick of our top spots for ANZAC Day. Shafston Hotel | East Brisbane Shafston Hotel is embracing tradition and catering to the food lovers out there, with an epic laneway party of two up, tinnies and food truck feeds. The laneway opens at 1pm with one of the biggest and best professionally hosted two-up tournament and eats from your favourite local food trucks, as well as plenty of cold beers from big and small brewers alike. Riverbar & Kitchen | CBD Spend ANZAC Day by the river at Riverbar and Kitchen and commemorate diggers past and present with a day of BBQ feasts, ice cold beers from a Stone & Wood Brewing pop-up bar in the beer garden, two up and live entertainment. Open from 8am for breakfast, they’ll be dishing up lamb burgers hot off the BBQ from 10am, and kicking off two up from 3pm. Story Bridge Hotel | Kangaroo Point The Story Bridge Hotel have a huge day planned, beginning with breakfast in the Main St Bar & Eatery from 6.30am. Planning on going back to bed after the dawn service? Just hit the Shelter Bar once you finally rouse yourself and tuck into a long lunch before joining in a game of two-up in the Outback Bar from 2pm.  If the game isn’t entertainment enough for you, there will also be live music well into the night. Fox Hotel | South Brisbane The Fox Hotel will be raising their glasses to our diggers with a big day supporting Legacy starting at 10am. Out the back in Fish Lane there’ll be two up aplenty, but if you’d rather stay close to the bar there’ll also be live music, AFL playing on the big screens and a whole lot of beer. Regatta Hotel | Toowong What would Anzac Day be without Anzac Biscuits, pavlova, BBQs and beers? Not the Anzac Day we know, that’s for sure. Thankfully Regatta will be putting on all these things to make sure we don’t go without, starting with a 5.30am breakfast and coffee at the Street Café for a post-dawn service feed. Why stop at breakfast though? Stay for bikkies, an all-day BBQ, a pavlova stand, two up and live music until late. The Glen Hotel | Eight Mile Plains Traditional is the name of the game at The Glen Hotel to commemorate our brave soldiers, with games of two up and ANZAC food specials. The Deck will be serving lunch from 11am, with ANZAC specials starting from 11.30am and two up starting on the deck from 1pm. The Paddo | Paddington The Paddo are honouring those who fought for our freedom with games of two up, great specials and giveaways throughout the day. The kitchen will be open from 12-10pm, giving you plenty of time to recharge after beating your mates in the ANZAC’s favourite game. To make the day even better, all proceeds collected will be donated to the Walking Wounded, helping families of fallen soldiers. Stock Exchange Hotel | CBD After hosting an Armed Forces private function, the Stock Exchange will be opening their doors to the public from 1pm, for $15 meals and amazing live music from Nick Trovas, the Hanlon Brothers and DJ Ricky D until late. So grab a group of mates and raise a glass to commemorate one of our most important national holidays. Buffalo Bar | CBD A BBQ, a few games of two up and the football – all the Australian classics for ANZAC Day and all you need for a chilled Monday session. That’s just what you’ll find at Buffalo Bar, along with their epic wings and ice cold craft beers on tap of course. Lest we forget.
