Where to go for breakfast with a view

Even though we hate to admit it (getting out of bed is hard, okay?), morning is probably the most beautiful time of day. The grass is glowing with dew, the Brisbane river is sparkling gently, and the ibis are generally too lazy to chase you for chips. Yet. Which is why you should do your morning meal justice and search out the best eatery to enjoy it in. Stop cramming a granola bar in your mouth on the drive to work, drive away from that drive-thru coffee, and check out our list of Brisbane breakfast spots with a view that’ll brighten up your day. Riverbar & Kitchen | CBD You can’t go past Riverbar for a spectacular backdrop to your morning polenta fritters with crispy pancetta and tomato salsa. Their outdoor seating perches you right beside the river, so you can catch some morning rays while you tuck into favourites like eggs benedict and smashed avocado on rye. And if it’s a Sunday (or even if not), you should definitely indulge in one of their boozy brunch cocktail jugs – it’s 5 o’clock somewhere in the world right? Malt Pier | Newstead Gorgeous inside and out, Malt Pier will have enjoying river breezes in their open, airy café while you tuck into delicious morning eats. It’s all about the classics here, with faves like zucchini and corn fritters with grilled haloumi, savoury mince and spicy baked eggs all on the menu. And because river views and cocktails go together like bacon and eggs, you’ll find a seriously cheeky version of your morning espresso to pair with them. Chapter IV | Paddington Stare at the city from a blissful distance at Chapter IV. And let us tell you: getting some space never tasted so sweet. Platefuls of French waffles with your choice of toppings (think berries, Nutella, vanilla ice cream… drooling yet?) are common fare here, but it’s a tough choice – our eyes find it hard to look away from their brekky burger. Maple bacon is a dangerously delicious phrase, after all. Northshore Harbour Café | Eagle Farm Sorry, but we’ve gotta blab! Northshore Harbour Café is a secret too good to keep. The gorgeous harbour expands before your eyes at this sunny brekkie spot and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a cruise ship. Just be prepared to spend a while umming and ahhing over your choices – the potato and feta hash cakes with herbed hollandaise and breakfast bruschetta are mighty hard to decide between. Medley Café | Kangaroo Point It’s generally hard to beat the views at Kangaroo Point, and Medley Café proves no exception. It may be a little hard to find, but nabbing a sunny spot on the deck by the river is totally worth taking a few wrong turns to get there, especially when you can tuck into orange sugar French toast with caramelized macadamia and lavender honey. WATT Restaurant & Bar | New Farm Sun-soaked terraces, riverside views, and paddock-to-plate produce will leave you spoilt rotten at this riverside spot. Tuck into something sweet, like their fresh banana bread, something fancy, like their poached eggs with hummus and dukkah, or something to fill your belly ‘til dinner (hello, New Farmer’s big breakfast). Southbank Beer Garden | South Bank Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting beer for breakfast (although, there’s an idea for our drawing board…), this South Bank spot serves up much more than brewed beverages. Gaze out over the South Bank beach (and possibly all those crazy peeps getting in some morning exercise) as you make a food baby with epic pancake stacks and classic eggs benedict. Have we spoiled your breakfast-in-the-car routine? Thank us when you’re staring at riverfront views instead of your steering wheel! Words by Samantha Chariton
