Where to get down to business over lunch in Brisbane

When it comes to a Brisbane lunch, we mean business. Productive business lunches, that is. How could you be in anything but a schmoozing mood with a delicious meal in front of you? Until you get a bit overexcited and order one too many espresso martinis, that is. Whether you’re showing a potential client around town, you’re trying to get in the boss’ good books or you’re just using ‘planning lunch’ as an excuse to ditch the office for a few hours, let the food do the talking and cab it (because you can’t walk in those leather shoes, obvs) to one of the delicious restaurants in the Brisbane CBD serving up the ultimate business lunch. Sake | Eagle Street Pier A chic, atmospheric venue which dishes up innovative Japanese fare to the stunning backdrop of the Brisbane River, Sake never fails to impress. Schmooze your client over plates of sushi and sashimi or opt for a solo meal like tender miso scallops with seasonal vegetables. If you’ve gotten the project team together for Friday lunch, just avoid going back to the office completely and stay for Japanese inspired cocktails at the bar. Coppa Spuntino | Creek St There’ll be no pasta-aggressive back and forth with an Italian feast in front of you at Coppa Spuntino, everyone will happily compromise so they can hurry up and tuck into goose liver parfait and pork and red wine ragu. If you can’t take time away from the boardroom, you can just send a minion for a few of their takeaway salads and sandwiches, but that will mean missing out on their epic wine list. business lunch lennonsLennons Restaurant & Bar | Queen St If you just want a familiar but gourmet feed, Lennons is right up your alley. Perch yourself high above the Queens Street Mall (no stopping for shopping on the way) and dig into pulled pork burgers, prosciutto pizza and sirloin steaks. But make no mistake, just because you recognise the dishes on the menu doesn’t mean you won’t be impressed. Lennons motto is ‘quick food not fast food,’ perfect for those who are far too busy for their own good, but love it that way. Public | George St Want to prove how bold and ready to tackle a challenge you are? Head to Public for lunch and order the adventurous (and delicious) salmon with black ants and apple or emu tartare. Even if you opt for something a little less exotic like crisp pork belly with green curry and sour apple or kingfish with sweetcorn, you’ll still be mixing business with pleasure and may just wind up staying for cocktails at the bar. Customs House | Queen St If you want to put your client into a good mood, there’s nothing like spectacular river views to get them there. Ignore the job at hand for a while and instead stare off into the distance as you dine on seared duck breast with sweet potato tart or pan seared barramundi with truffled polenta chips. Then, get down to brie-sness over a luscious cheese plate with house made lavosh. business lunch brisbane eccoE’cco Bistro | Boundary St With an awards list almost longer than their menu, this swanky spot is where you take the bigwigs. Woo VIPs with tender black cardamom beef with caramelised puree and butter them up with an epic strawberry, rhubarb and rosewater cheesecake with tangy raspberry sorbet that looks more like art than dessert. If you’ve got cash to splash, there’s a vintage champagne list that will put anyone in a bubbly mood. Alchemy | Eagle St You should probably plan for a longer lunch than usual than usual if you’re dining at Alchemy, because you probably won’t want to leave. Once you’ve worked through spiced pork scratchings, scallops with caramelized orange butter and melt-in-the-mouth lamb loin with braised belly and smoked couscous, there’s still their famous liquid nitrogen sweet gastronomic nibbles to ease any leftover tension. Il Centro | Eagle St If the sweeping views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge in front of you at Il Centro don’t seal the deal, their famous sand crab lasagne sure will. With just the right atmosphere to fill you with purpose, you could finalise three agreements and start working on a 10 year business plan here, all while you indulge in Italian fare that’s worth every penne of what it takes from your expense budget. After all, you can’t think well unless you’ve dined well! Just don’t go overboard on the wine. Words by Moira Kennedy and Ranyhyn Akui
