Here Heir: King Street's the Place to Feast This Ekka
Don some purple and find your tiaras ladies and gents because The Royal Queensland Show will soon be back and...
If you haven’t ever been to the Ekka, can you really say you live in Brisbane?
It’s that glorious time of year when bushies descend on the city, mums swoon over woodchoppers and we just cannot get enough of strawberry sundaes and Dagwood Dogs – hello foodie heaven! It also means we get a glorious midweek public holiday, and you know we’re going to make the most of it!
We’ve rounded up where you’ll be partying Ekka Eve, and where you’ll be recovering the following day.
You know you’re risking regretta if you’re not at the Regatta! Sip on cocktails and boogie down with a live DJ from 8pm, before devouring Nachos el Grande, pork sliders and salt and pepper squid.
You can’t cry ‘work’ as any excuse this Tuesday night! To celebrate a Brisbane as grand as the Ekka, we recommend heading to the banks of the might Brisbane River. Listen to DJ Bret spin his magic whilst you enjoy beer, wine and cocktails from the bar, and snack on tasty bites Koma Sliders, Greek Street Kantina, Ciccio Pizzeria and Spiro’s Fish Market. Just don’t get tempted to dive in!
The place to be in the Valley for a boogie, Black Bear Lodge is the most dance-worthy spot on Ekka Eve with three Brisbane bands taking the stage. Dig out your flares and platform shoes, grab yourself a cocktail and cut a rug!
Nothing screams PUBLIC HOLIDAY EVE like a pub, and nothing screams EKKA like a show bag so luckily for us, Little Big House is bringing us both! The restored Queenslander/ party house is giving away Little Big House show bags with any main meal – and it’d be rude not to pair it with a cheeky beer or two.
Looking to soothe your Ekka Eve hangover, or just want to keep the party going? We have options.
Devastated you missed out on tickets to round one of Espresso Martini Festival? Fret not friends, we’ve had too many espresso martinis to let the buzz die, so we’re going in for round two! Prepare for a celebratory day of sippin’ on cocktails including condensed milk cream cold drip vanilla martini, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky with Mr Blacks coffee liquer and cold drip and rum salted golden syrup espresso martini – accompanied by tasty bites from Hello Please and Ol School. Get your mitts on tickets here!
The party never stops with Seadeck, and the party will be in full swing on Wednesday. With beats from Poolclvb and Flex Cop, gourmet pizzas and burgers to assist in your recovery and jugs of sangria to keep you hydrated, you’re in for a glorious day out on the water.
Want the Ekka atmosphere without the crowds? Head to the Regatta for a carnival experience, sans the dreaded Ekka flu. With live music in the courtyard from 3pm, Strawberry Flings from the River Road Café and good food in your belly – you’re in for a treat.
More interested in a feast than a party? Luckily some of Brisbane’s best will still be opening their doors on the public holiday, check out the list below!
Whatever you get up to, make sure it’s ekka-cellent. We’ll see ourselves out.
