Wednesday 29 Throughout the months of April and May, Mighty Mighty will be curing the hump day drag and having you saying ‘Holy cow!’ to 2lbs (almost 1kg!) of perfectly cooked meat cuts and all the trimmings for $75. The trimmings being a few of Mighty’s tasty new side dishes. The steaks are high to polish this feast off, so while we don’t usually advocate sharing, it’s best enjoyed between two. Thursday 30 Get down to The Milk Factory on a Thursday night and you’ll be rewarded with a $10 parma, a few beers and live music to get you grooving (after a few drinks, anyway). There’s even an eggplant option for the vegos, so no need to forgo the cheese and sauce covered goodness if you’re not a meat lover! Friday 1 The Gluten Free Food Expo is back and better than ever for 2015! Spread over 2 days (Friday and Saturday) at the Brisbane Convention Centre, the expo will be hosting special talks, cooking demonstrations and bountiful stallholders who will be sharing their knowledge of gluten-free living – and plenty of goodies! With Nutri Hitt, Pana Chocolate (drools), Paleo Café and plenty more exhibitors heading to the event, you’d be crazy to miss it if you’re gluten-intolerant! Saturday 2 Kicking off the official opening of Bakery Lane, the new Valley space will be playing host to a special Providore Market from 9am-1pm. Resident cafes and eateries will be opening their doors, with small batch producers and local artisans sharing their wares in the cosy laneway, with the nearby Winn Lane joining in the fun too. But this isn’t just a one-trick-pony – the Providore Markets will be popping up in the area the first Saturday of every month! Sunday 3 The hands-on peeps from The Makers Club are at it again, teaching willing foodies a thing or two with another of their masterclasses, this time on how to brew the perfect beer. With guidance from Bacchus Brewing Co., you will design, brew and sample your own drop over several sessions (perfection takes time), with the final product put on tap at The End so you can show off your handiwork to all your beer-loving friends! Tickets are $150. Monday 4 Live Below the Line is back again for 2015 and raising money to make a difference to those living in extreme poverty. How can you help? Sign up and feed yourself for $2 a day, which is all those in extreme poverty have to live on, for 5 days, raising funds by getting your friends and family to sponsor you. Slight hunger pains and a few caffeine withdrawals are worth supporting this cause. Tuesday 5 Need an excuse to eat more Mexican fare? Well, Cinco De Mayo has come to the rescue with a celebration of Mexican culture, cuisine, cocktails and music. If you don’t want to limit the party to one day you could hit up the riverside celebration at Kangaroo Point on May 2, but we think an all week fiesta chowing down on Brisbane’s best Tex-Mex and the best tacos in town is in order. Wednesday 6 We’re all up for digging into a dozen courses of fine nosh, but it can be a bit of a challenge to do it more than once a year. Bacchus has answered our prayers for a more wallet and weeknight friendly (no one wants to be getting up for work after a 6 hour meal the night before!) indulgence and introduced their petit 4 course degustation, which boasts the big flavours of Bacchus’ usual epic degustations in a shorter format. With dishes such as the Moreton Bay bug tail with kimchi and avocado puree, you can’t go past this mid-week feast. Thursday 7 Cirque du Soleil’s TOTEM is coming to the Brisbane Arcade. Room with Roses will be hosting a high tea with TOTEM’s Head of Wardrobe, Amanda Balius. It’ll be just like dinner and a show, except high tea with a fashion parade. You’ll watch some of the performers parade in their costumes with a few somersaults along the way as you munch on cucumber sandwiches and scones with jam and cream. Tickets are $55 and you can grab them here. Friday 8 Friday Nite Snackdown sees the best collaboration since Sonny and Cher, with snack sensei Ben Devlin teaming up with Wandering Cooks to bring Brisbane diners culinary treats every Friday Night. Snackdown sees weekly battles of different cuisines, with diners able to vote for their favourite at the end of the night. With dishes like bacon okonomiyaki, miso beef burger and carissa and chilli popcorn popular in previous weeks, you know every Friday is going to be packed with flavour. Saturday 9 South Side Diner is shaking things up for a night with 80s themed food specials, Ketel One Vodka cocktails, and even a DeLorian to take you back to the future like Marty McFly #fangirlsqueal. There’s no law against dancing here, so you can get your footloose on to all the 80’s tunes from 5pm onwards. Bookings are recommended. Sunday 10 She spent nearly two decades feeding you, clothing you, kissing your boo-boos, patiently dealing with your puberty blues and helping to mend your first broken heart (hopefully with as much ice-cream as sage advice).
