What's on in Brisbane this week: September 30-October 11
28 Sep 2015
Wednesday 30 What’s better than delicious Asian street food? Free delicious Asian street food! Head to Libertine between 5-6pm Monday to Friday and you can order any dish off their street food menu and get another free! There’s something for everyone, from Bangalow pork spring rolls and mushroom dumplings to ‘popcorn’ Hanoi eight-spiced chicken and BBQ duck crepes. Bonus, the more friends you take, the more you can eat! Thursday 1 Start the weekend early and head down to bao town on Wickham Street at Bao Down Now. It’s worth a visit just for the soft and fluffy bao buns filled with everything from braised beef cheek and kimchi salad to crispy hot and sour crab, but you might want to stay a while for teapot cocktails and grooving on the dance floor. Friday 2 Bloodhound Bar is celebrating the contribution of hops to good beer with Hopfields 2015. Settle in for a seriously beery afternoon and sip your way through limited releases, one-offs and launches of new brews, plus the classics of course. All your beery needs are covered and then some with beer cocktails and hop-infused spirits, plus plenty of bites to pair them with. Saturday 3 All In Brewing may not be able to party for the 16 days of Oktoberfest but they sure can do 16 days worth of partying in one! Head on over to the north side brewery from 12pm on the 3rd and you’ll find Bavarian street food from Kraut ‘n’ About – including plenty of currywurst, a special once off All In Dunkelweizen brew and free pretzels! Wear your best lederhosen if you dare – you might win a prize for best dressed! Sunday 4 Get the most out of your weekend eating with Barcadia at their Sunday cook out on the deck. Every Sunday they grill up BBQ’d snacks galore and pair them with cold brews and sweet tunes for an afternoon Sunday session, Bulimba style. The Sunday cook out starts grilling from 2pm, tell your friends! Monday 5 Join New Farm Deli for a four course Italian feast featuring delicious Italian share platters, mains and dessert accompanied by a selection of aperitif, wines and coffee. If that’s not enough for you, Aperol and Peroni pop-up bars will be available throughout lunch, with a selection of classic Italian cocktails and beers for purchase to keep the good times flowing. Tickets are $130 and can be purchased at the New Farm Deli or on their website, here. Tuesday 6 Put your thinking cap on (or just grab a beer) and join the crew at Hop and Pickle for their weekly Tuesday night Trivia. Munch on deep fried pickles and ham hock croquettes while you do your best not to get stumped on questions like ‘Who really is Australia’s Prime Minister?’ Win you way to the grand final each season and you’re in with a chance to walk away with $300! Wednesday 7 The best thing about spring isn’t the warmer weather, it’s having new season menus to try! Locavore’s new spring menu is one we rushed in to sample, and with nothing but fresh, local produce featured in dishes like strawberry and cream hotcakes and the spring bowl of coconut and lime quinoa with sautéed seasonal greens, poached eggs and avocado, so should you! Thursday 8 One weekend just isn’t enough time to celebrate Oktoberfest at Bavarian Bier Cafe so they’re putting on Oktoberfest Bier Flights all month long! Sample 3 Oktoberfest-exclusive Biers for $15, matched with Bavarian’s signature pretzels and pork knuckle of course! Friday 9 Looking for an excuse to head out for Friday afternoon work drinks close to home? Let The Glen Hotel know you need a reward for getting you through the week and they’ll send you $30 worth of Deck Dollars to spend at The Deck Bar Bistro! Take 6 workmates and spend it on pork ribs with smoky BBQ sauce, buffalo chicken wings or a few of their 20 tap beers, and keep rewarding yourself long into the night with a DJ spinning tunes! Saturday 10 You shouldn’t need a reason to venture out to Brisbane Airport’s DFO to visit the Lindt Chocolate Shop but we’re about to give you one anyway. For one day only, the newly opened Lindt Store are having a 30% off sale on all their chocolatey goods. Yep, that means all their deliciously creamy chocolate balls, bars and pralines, all 30% off. With Christmas season fast approaching, there’s no better reason than to stop in store to stock up some goodies for your friends and family, and of course, yourself. Sunday 11 Dust off your lederhosen for the first weekend of Oktoberfest at the Brisbane Showgrounds, thee largest Oktoberfest celebration in Australia and one of the world’s top 10 outside of Germany! You’d never know you weren’t in Germany as the Showgrounds are transformed into a quaint German village, complete with a biergarten and plenty of German beers, pretzels and even yodelling. Tickets range from $17-25 and can be found here.
