thisweekinfood_022-9Wednesday 23 Brothel and bathhouse turned Parisian steakhouse, Les Bubbles is the newest addition to the Valley and if you want to keep up with the Joneses, you need to check the place out pronto. Tuck into their signature dish of steak frites – a juicy steak with unlimited frites – and when you’ve had your fill, stay a while to enjoy some cheeky cocktails and take in the quirky décor. Thursday 24 The Variety of Young Chefs Dinner is a special annual foodie affair that will this year be hosted at the brand new London Fields in West End. Dedicated to celebrating the exceptional talent of some of the hospitality industry’s rising stars, the dinner will also raise funds to help Variety – the Children’s Charity support Queensland kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. A handful of impressive young chefs will be cooking up a 5 course extravaganza, starting with swanky cocktails and canapés from 6:30pm. Tickets are $150 and can be booked here. Friday 25 Get in touch with your Italian roots (or at least pretend you have some) with an indulgent 4 course luncheon at Peel Street Grill & Cellar. Each dish will be matched to an outstanding array of Italian wines, giving you the perfect excuse not to head back to the office after your long lunch. Seats to the lunch are $85 and can be booked by contacting Peel Street Grill & Cellar. Saturday 26 Sunsuper Riverfire is Brisbane’s night of nights, and whether you want sophisticated eats and drinks away from the crowd or a rooftop extravaganza right in the middle of the action, we’ve got you covered with our list of the tastiest Riverfire events in town. Sunday 27 You want food trucks? You’ve got ‘em at Downey Park this Sunday, where 10 of Brisbane’s delicious meals on wheels will gather for a food filled afternoon. Head down from 1-4pm with a blanket and some dollars and make yourself a food baby. Monday 28 Need some serious Monday medicine after your big weekend? Why not avoid the temptation of takeaway and order in a box of Caveman Kitchen ready-to-eat meals, or head out for a super healthy superfood dinner? Indulge without the guilt on raw, paleo, or just good, nutritious food and be ready to face the week ahead! Tuesday 29 When you’re talking whisky (or whiskey) there’s no one as knowledgeable as West End’s Cobbler Bar. And if you want to learn more about this liquid gold, or you just want to drink a whole lot of it, then Cobbler’s monthly whisky tastings are for you. This month’s Suntory Whisky tasting was inspired by the Suntory Whisky distillery on the outskirts of Kyoto and showcases the finest Japanese whisky, with 6 courses of whisky paired with matching eats for only $120 pp. It’d be whisky business not to book now. Wednesday 30 What’s better than delicious Asian street food? Free delicious Asian street food! Head to Libertine between 5-6pm Monday to Friday and you can order any dish off their street food menu and get another free! There’s something for everyone, from Bangalow pork spring rolls and mushroom dumplings to ‘popcorn’ Hanoi eight-spiced chicken and BBQ duck crepes. Bonus, the more friends you take, the more you can eat! Thursday 1 Start the weekend early and head down to bao town on Wickham Street at Bao Down Now. It’s worth a visit just for the soft and fluffy bao buns filled with everything from braised beef cheek and kimchi salad to crispy hot and sour crab, but you might want to stay a while for teapot cocktails and grooving on the dance floor. Friday 2 Bloodhound Bar is celebrating the contribution of hops to good beer with Hopfields 2015. Settle in for a seriously beery afternoon and sip your way through limited releases, one-offs and launches of new brews, plus the classics of course. All your beery needs are covered and then some with beer cocktails and hop-infused spirits, plus plenty of bites to pair them with. Saturday 3 All In Brewing may not be able to party for the 16 days of Oktoberfest but they sure can do 16 days worth of partying in one! Head on over to the north side brewery from 12pm on the 3rd and you’ll find Bavarian street food from Kraut ‘n’ About – including plenty of currywurst, a special once off All In Dunkelweizen brew and free pretzels! Wear your best lederhosen if you dare – you might win a prize for best dressed! Sunday 4 Get the most out of your weekend eating with Barcadia at their Sunday cook out on the deck. Every Sunday they grill up BBQ’d snacks galore and pair them with cold brews and sweet tunes for an afternoon Sunday session, Bulimba style. The Sunday cook out starts grilling from 2pm, tell your friends!
