a-week-in-food-TEMP-(Liquidity-Marketing's-conflicted-copy-2015-03-19)-2Wednesday 5 On Wednesday evenings, skip the bargain bin at the bottle shop and make your way to Bacchus for Head Sommelier Andrew Giblin’s free weekly wine tasting. Whether you’re a grape-loving amateur or a sophisticated wine sniffer, by the end of the night, it won’t even matter. Make hump day your wine and dine day or simply your wine and wine day. Thursday 6 Want to give yourself a break from the wintry casseroles and roasts? Take the comfort food baby up a notch with The Fox Hotel’s all you can eat mussels on Thursday nights. Take your pick from steaming pots of white wine with cream and garlic, chorizo with tomato and chilli or lemongrass with ginger, and indulge yourself in succulent seafood goodness. This deal is only $25 with any drink purchase, and comes served with crusty bread and frites (fancy talk for fries). Friday 7 If you’re looking to see the tastiest fight of the century, Wandering Cooks host an epic Battle Royale each and every week. Featuring local chefs whipping up meals from different themes and cultures, diners get to try the foods and vote for their favourite at the end of the evening (if they aren’t too tipsy from overindulging at the bar of course). Head along to see who’ll be cooking up a storm this week! Saturday 8 The geniuses behind the bar at Stokehouse have crafted a clever winter cocktail menu just in time for the last month of winter. With 13 cunning and fiery potions to warm your heart and soul such as the Prickly Pear (the actual prickly pear is illegal in Queensland, so this is the closest and far more delicious you can get), and other brilliantly named concoctions such as the Witchy Woman, Winter Julep and Pillow Talk, there’s no excuse needed to stop by Stoke for a sip in serious style. Sunday 9 The only downside about eating a Sunday roast out is that there are no leftovers for roast beef sandwiches. Up side? No dishes, ditching the awkward family get together or even taking your family out for the belated family catch up. Round up all your favourite people for a mouthwatering Sunday roast with oven crisp potatoes so delicious they’ll float your gravy boat. Monday 10 Monday night hanger hits right on 5pm every week – causing havoc with Monday resolutions to spend less and eat better. Well surely tucking into traditional Italian pizzas made with fresh ingredients at Paddington’s Il Posto counts as eating better right? Better than dial-a-pizza anyway… And when it’ll set you back only $15, it’s really impossible to resist! Tuesday 11 If you’re not heading to the Ekka Races this year (and even if you are) it’s hard to go past Newstead Brewing Co’s Craft Beer and Food Journey. For $95 you’ll not only spend an evening tasting six of the best brews Brisbane has to offer, matched to delicious eats, but you’ll also be supporting the fight against cystic fibrosis. Spend a rare Tuesday night without any cares of work the next day, entertained by live music, a fire twirling performance, a guest speaker, auction and raffle prizes. Wednesday 12 The Ekka is about more than just show bags and rides. With more foodie options than ever (including more cheese than you can handle) we guarantee you’ll be buying a show bag just to cover up that food baby. If it’s a comprehensive list of the best eats the Ekka has to offer this year you’re after, cast your eyes over our handy guide. Thursday 13 Midweek public holidays are even better if you can plan ahead and turn them into an extra long weekend! If you’ve managed to get in first and be the lucky one ditching the office, you’ve got just enough time to head off on our epic foodie road trip – 300km of nothing but eats and drinks. Not one of the lucky ones? Not a worry, just take a day trip. Friday 14 Perfect for the classy office-wear clad CBD workers, Mr Edward’s Alehouse and Kitchen has opened their doors for intriguing bistro style dishes and share plates. No greasy wings and burgers here, just good food to pair with a beer. And oh the beer! From limited edition kegs to specialist dessert beers, these brews will have you ditching work for the rest of the afternoon. Saturday 15 On the hunt for somewhere new to take your Saturday brekky crew? West End’s new London Fields might just fit the bill, with a weekend breakfast menu that features intriguing and creative brunches like stewed apple porridge, black pudding with fried egg and smoked tomato and Scotch eggs on sourdough. While you’re there, stop by The Stores for some nibbles for later. Sunday 16 Stones Corner Hotel and The World Food Markets are kicking off another Food Truck Laneway Sunday. A few of Brisbane’s best food trucks will be dishing up epic feeds including Bella BBQ, Fire’N’Dough, Greek Street Kantina, Juan More Taco, The Bun Mobile and more! With twinkling fairy lights, outdoor seating and plenty of heaters to ensure no one is left out in the cold, the free event will be a delicious food and booze filled evening!
