Anyone who thinks that paleo is over is clearly living in the stone age. Gather your tribe and descend on Hunter and Scout, your newest breakfast hunting ground has stampeded into Graceville’s thriving café scene. Living up to its namesake, Hunter and Scout offers a great range of protein and plant based dishes, but this is not your average mortgage-breaking avocado on toast style affair. Acai bowls? So last millennium. Try puffed rice granola with yoghurt sorbet, fresh fruit and an acai smoothie pour-over. French toast is made fancy with a fried eggy brioche topped with roasted banana, salted caramel ice cream and pretzel praline. Zucchini fritters are swapped for roast garlic and chive croquettes with butter baby chard, poached eggs and sherry hollandaise for the ultimate boozy breakfast affair. A typical ‘big brekkie’ is beefed up as The Hunter with wood smoked bacon, pork and maple sausage, garlic croquette, free range eggs and sourdough. And yes, there is avocado on toast, but forgetta ‘bout feta, Hunter and Scout served with olive sourdough, hung yoghurt, pickled watermelon, smashed beetroot, black sesame and greens. Feeling adventurous? Why not try a breakfast sesame cured salmon poke bowl, or crispy pork belly with smoked eggplant and pomegranate? Or for the zen cave(wo)man in us all, build your #buddhabowl cred with a fried sweet potato and cauliflower with quinoa tabouleh and whipped garlic tahini. The usual rule of robust coffee, killer takeaway sandwiches and fresh juices applies, but you may find it hard to walk past their irresistible range of Jocelyn’s Provisions cakes (thank goodness for dessert stomachs!).
