Top of the morning to ya, Paddy! | The Gourmand & Gourmet

Top of the morning to ya, Paddy!

It’s that time of the year when we’re keen for green, everyone’s boozin and you won’t stop hearing “Yeah, I’m 7% Irish so I’m feeling pretty patriotic right now”.

If you’re short and/or ginger, St Patrick’s Day is either your nightmare or your time to shine, but for everyone else, it’s just a good excuse to dress up and destroy your diet one potato at a time. St Paddy’s Day is the festivity of all things Irish, (primarily beer- give us a few Guinness and we become more unintelligible than Brad Pitt in Snatch) and luckily we’ve struck gold when it comes to celebrations around QLDublin.

Paddyfest | Eagle Farm Racecourse

Follow the rainbow to Eagle Farm Racecourse where Paddyfest will be taking place! Experience the impressive line-up of entertainment including Roving Irish Dancers, the hilarious Jimeoin and the Ukulele Death Squad (aptly named for their killer skills), as you don your best leprechaun couture.  Bring a friend FREE with the promo code ‘FRIEND’ at the ticket checkout!

Osbourne Hotel | Fortitude Valley

Convert to the dark side at the Osbourne Hotel, with Guinness on tap all weekend! Prep your stomach for a day of drinking with braised ribs or beef as you enjoy live music from James Forde.

Regatta Hotel | Toowong

Celebrate the day riverside by smashing down a few beef and Guinness pies and hearty lamb stew from the Courtyard of Regatta, and visit the Main Bar for a selection of stouts on tap.

St Patrick’s Day Parade | CBD

The city is about to become greener than Snoop Dogg’s entire house. Attracting 20,000 onlookers in 2017, this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade will end outside the Botanic Gardens and continue the celebrations throughout the day with live music from Celtic Fusions and delicious food from 30 stalls.

Gilhooleys | CBD

With Guinness and Magners flowing freely, amazing live entertainment and great craic, get your green on at Gilhooleys with a day that’ll leave you dancing and singing into the wee hours of the morning.

Beyond the Pale | Coorparoo

Sham-rock out to the live music in Coorparoo Square laneway this Paddy’s day, with an Irish beer pop-up stall so close that you won’t have a reason to not have a Kilkenny in-hand at all times.

Irish Murphy’s | CBD

With some of the greatest Irish entertainment in Queensland, Irish Murphy’s is throwing the ultimate Paddy’s party complete with Jameson and Bulmers – where you’ll be able to strut your stuff as you make your way throughout the 3 pumping levels.

Copperface Jack’s | West End

Not to be seen as some small (sorry leprechauns) event, Copperface Jack’s is taking St Patrick’s Day to a 3 day level, with plenty of entertainment, giveaways and booze to keep you going the whole way through.

Pig N Whistle | Indooroopilly & South Brisbane

We hope you’re hungry, because the Pig N Whistle is putting on a St Patrick’s Day Irish feast to dine for! Think Guinness pies, Bulmer’s mussels and soda bread, and black pudding, as Ireland vs England in the RBS Six Nations Tournament is on full display.

The Flying Cock | Fortitude Valley

Shamrock around The Cock this year, with The Flying Cock’s house band Birdman Randy paying tribute to the recently passed Dolores O’Riordan, and enough booze to turn you into a Zombie. Grab your four leaf clovers folks, it’s time to get lucky – this St Patrick’s Day is one you won’t want to miss. Words by Sophia Lunn, the ginger Gourmand whose sister refers to her as a leprechaun every year.
