You might be surprised to hear that one of Brisbane’s best restaurants is hidden away in a corner of the ‘burbs you’ve probably driven past a hundred times, but this cozy spot in Auchenflower is definitely one of our towns’ best kept foodie secrets. Deer Duck Bistro is all about fine dining in a cosy atmosphere, with quirky antiques adorning every surface behind the doors of a whimsical old shop on Milton Road. Those antiques are what give the eccentric spot it’s name, with ducks peering out of paintings and embellishing vases in one of the dining rooms (there’s multiple – it’s a veritable maze of hidden corners, and there’s even the option of private function spaces), and deers sprinkled around another. Once they might have been known for their ducking delicious degustations, but these days, there’s plenty more on offer at the quirky spot, with long lunches available on Friday and Saturday, and more options for private dining and sophisticated functions than ever. Whether you’re planning a dinner for 2 or 20, they can take care of every detail, with a menu and private space to suit. Drop in for a cosy dinner or relaxed lunch and you can choose from their adventurous a la carté menu, with creative but familiar dishes like pan seared scallops with blue cheese pana cotta, slow roasted pork belly with peppered green strawberry and apple chutney, and jaw-dropping desserts like the Turkish delight with lemon curd, chocolate soil and vanilla fairy floss. If it’s the degustation menu that gets your attention, don’t worry that you’ll break the bank indulging – with five course ($75pp), seven course ($99pp) and nine course ($119pp) degustations on offer, there’s a way to treat yourself (and your date – hint hint), no matter what your budget is. There’s even a vegetarian option! Just be sure to pair it with matched wines expertly matched to each dish (hint to the boys: we’ve heard this is an excellent way to get your date in a good mood), or just choose your perfect drop by the glass or bottle. If you’re ready to introduce yourself to Brisbane’s best kept dining secret, you’ll find Deer Duck Bistro at 396 Milton Road, Auchenflower, open Tuesday to Saturday for dinner, and lunch Friday and Saturday.
