The north side just got a whole lot sweeter!

We really hope none of you out there have jumped on the sugar free bandwagon, because we’ve got a new spot that will have you jumping right back off it. Lucid Sweets, creators of the bright, perfectly crafted and oh so delicious meringues we’ve been ordering by the box full since we discovered them, have opened their very own café – and it’s everything we dreamed it would be. Tucked away in Geebung, the cute and cosy spot is just what you would imagine from the dessert geniuses – colourful, quirky and filled to the brim with all things sweet. No matter what time of day you pop by, whether it’s breakfast, afternoon tea or a sneaky late night dessert on a Thursday evening, you’re bound to end up on a sugar high, no matter how strong your resolve usually is. It’s not all calorie laden heavenliness of course – stop in for brunch and you can grab a bagel filled with fresh locally sourced fillings or a breakfast special to pair with a Genovese coffee or Madura Tea. But even with your chicken pesto and rocket or ham and Dijon mustard bagel in hand your eyes will wander to the dessert menu and stacks of glittering meringues, so we really hope you’re open to something a little sweet to finish. You could just stick to a box of Lucid Sweets’ infamous meringues or baby pavlovas in all sorts of scrumptious flavours – but do yourself a favour and check out the dessert menu. From the fresh and simple Berry Nice Eton Mess with vanilla bean meringue kisses, raspberry coulis, fresh cream and raspberries, to the totally indulgent pile of chocolate meringue kisses with Nutella, chocolate covered honeycomb, cream and banana, aptly named Straight to the Thighs (we’re already upping our cardio sessions in preparation for a serve of these every week), it’s impossible to walk away without ordering something. Popping up on the menu will be seasonal specials – keep an eye out for the Oreo meringues with chocolate ice cream, crumbled Oreos and warm chocolate fudge sauce for winter (and maybe start looking for some new stretchy pants). If you’re ready for the sugar high, you’ll find Lucid Sweets at 3/6 Railway Parade, Geebung, open seven days a week. Words by Ranyhyn Akui Images by Judit Losh
