The Mt Gravatt restaurant you need to put on your must-try list

  • Food & Booze
If you haven’t checked out the new dining precinct at Garden City yet then it’s about time you do, before you miss the boat – the boat that’s setting sail to the Mediterranean glory The Palms is dishing up, that is. The Palms Bar and Grill is a deliciously swanky addition to the tropical resort-like precinct, the perfect spot for everything from luxurious lunches to delectable desserts and potentially your new fave suburban cocktail hang out. mt gravatt restaurants the palms 2Rally the troops and settle in for a night of ‘the more the merrier’ with an entire menu perfectly tailored for sharing. No matter the occasion, you can happily spend an evening passing around bites like seriously cheesy croquetas with chorizo aioli, crispy buttermilk chicken pieces served with rosemary mascarpone and bacon jam (yes, bacon jam), or slow cooked lamb ribs. If that’s not enough to cure your hanger, level up with a dish (or three) from the ‘something bigger’ menu, which sports deliciousness like braised lamb shoulder pasta with sautéed zucchini. It’s enough to swear off anything but lamb shoulder for the rest of your life (or at least just until dessert). Equally mouthwatering is the crispy duck with quinoa, hazelnut and citrus salad, or juicy options from the grill like pork ribs and rump steak. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the prices too, which leave plenty of dosh for dessert. mt gravatt restaurants the palms dessertBecause, DESSERT! Holy fork. Our pick from the short but irresistible menu is simply titled ‘chocolate’ (no messing about here), with soft chocolate, vanilla panna cotta, oat crumble and salted caramel that will have you ordering two more, while their semifreddo with baked brioche comes loaded with red wine pear and praline. We’re still dreaming about it. Top it all off with a tropical cocktail and you’ll be feeling like you just took a poolside holiday, and wishing you had a few days to laze in the sun and let your food baby settle. mt gravatt restaurant the palms 3The catch cry of the season may very well be ‘winter is coming,’ but with fronds like The Palms Bar and Grill (palm fronds – #sorrynotsorry), you may as well be in the Greek Islands sipping on Mediterranean goodness. Whatever the season, it’s definitely worth the trip to the ‘burbs. Words by Lucille Burkitt
