The inner city party venue that won’t leave you broke
- 31 Aug 2015
We all know the struggle of trying to find a venue for a birthday bash, a corporate gathering or a Christmas party but being hampered by a pesky budget, whether it’s set by your parents, your partner or the accounting department. And when the only other option is to celebrate at home (and have to clean up afterwards) or put some balloons up in a park, well, you almost want to give up on celebrating all together. Don’t despair, because we’ve found a spot that won’t leave you broke and even offers up some million dollar views and spectacular seafood without the price tag. Better still, it’s right in the heart of city. Where could this oasis be? The South Bank Surf Club, our favourite beachside hangout. So if you’re looking to host a celebratory affair catered with gourmet eats that will still leave you with enough mooolah left over for a substantial bar tab, this is the place for you. After all, you want plenty of stories to reminisce over on Monday and no great story starts with a salad – although there are plenty of those on the menu and they are delicious. Which brings us to the food. Canapé options for your shindig include drool-worthy hand-held delights like oysters with champagne sorbet, ham and cheddar croquettes, and even desserts like chocolate ganache tartlets. If you’re going to stick with the surf club theme, you can opt for a BBQ feast and literally have prawns (not shrimp… who says shrimp?) thrown on the barbie for you and your guests. There’s even the option of getting a whole pig or lamb spit roast, with enough sides to feed your entire extended family and then some. Better than slaving over the BBQ at home, right? For a more formal event, you can choose a 2 or 3 course a la carte menu, with dishes that will make it impossible to be unhappy with the alternate drop. There’ll be no playing swapsies with the likes of slow roasted Cape Grim sirloin and black pepper prawns arriving on the table! Then comes the tricky decision of the beverage packages. Gone are the days of beer and wine being the disappointing option – we’d much rather sit down to a cold beer and a boutique Australian wine than a vodka soda any day of the week. You’ll find a space for any sized gathering at the venue, whether it’s an intimate sit down dinner for 15 or a cocktail soiree for 350. Choose The Lookout rooftop for some of the best views in town, The Side Bar for a more intimate setting, The Back Deck for a fun sit down event, or the Front Deck for a sunset rendezvous. And if your event calls for something a little larger than life, the full venue can be shut down just for you and your crew. You can find out more information about functions at the South Bank Surf Club here. Now you just have to figure out what you’re going to wear.
