The Brisbane bucket list: 10 things to stuff your face with in September

There comes a time every year when we have to weigh up our options and make a serious decision. It usually occurs around the first week of spring – that time when we look at our drawer full of shorts and think ‘Are we going to make sure we fit into those, or just put our summer bodies on hold this year?’ This time round, the decision was easy – we’ll take the boozy milkshakes, deep fried goodies and this month’s G&G Breakfast Battle and see you next summer, bikini drawer.
#1. Boozy salted caramel milkshake | 5 Boroughs | Stones Corner
Can’t decide between having an adult tipple or a sugar-laden milkshake with your burger and crisscross chips at 5 Boroughs? Just get both with a shot of bourbon in your bacon topped salted caramel milkshake!
#2. Bomboloni alla crema | Ristorante la Famiglia | Woolloongabba
These cream filled Italian doughnuts drizzled with chocolate sauce might just be the sole reason we’re rethinking our break up with doughnuts.
#3. Slow cooked lamb shoulder | Delfina’s Bistro | Fortitude Valley
This is one meaty feast you’ll definitely need to share. Grab a date and clear your night to check out Delfina’s slick new digs under the Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments with melt-in-your-mouth lamb shoulder, a side of their crispy potato and chorizo, and plenty of creative cocktails.
#4. Deep fried mac ‘n’ cheese balls | Blockhouse Eat + Drink | Nundah
Wild horses couldn’t tear us away from trying this feed! Deep fried mac ‘n’ cheese balls with bacon jam for breakfast? Just try and stop us!

They might be best known in Melbourne for their burgers, but it’s this new Brisbane food trucks filthy fries piled with bacon, cheese and trucker sauce that has us chasing them down.
#6. Brioche French toast | The Priory | Woolloongabba
Blueberry compote, pistachio gelato, maple syrup, toasted nuts and ALL OF THE HONEYCOMB (actually – the menu says so, ok) make this a new breakfast spot worth sampling.
#7. Garden Tea | Soleil Pool Bar | South Brisbane
High tea has had a spring make over – namely, they’ve taken out the tea and added Pimm’s, champagne, delicious spring inspired eats like pulled chicken tacos and best of all, a glam rooftop, poolside setting at Soleil!
#8. Spaghetti bolognaise pizza | Gino’s | Hamilton
Yes, you read that right. That’s spaghetti bolognaise ON a pizza, no need to choose between them. Carb-loading, here we come.
#9. Salad box | Greens & Grains | Graceville
Feeling the pinch after a winter of comfort food? Greens & Grains fresh and saucy salads with a side of pulled brisket might help – but only if you can resist their cupcakes and pastries while you’re there!
#10. Beer InCider | Albion Park Raceway | Albion
400 beers. Need we say more? How about the fact that there’s also ginger beer, mead, wine, prosecco, espresso martinis, food trucks and even cheese! Over 2 huge days from September 16-17, this is one festival not to be missed. Happy eating! Words by Ranyhyn Akui
