The Brisbane bucket list: 10 things to feast on in October

Christmas is now less than three months away, so it’s time to start training for the big day of eating (or, at least, that’s what we are telling ourselves as we sip on an apple pie cocktail). It’s time to get ready to stretch your pants, your mouth and your stomach as you work your way through these ten Brisbane food experiences that will get your in appetite shape for the Christmas season.
#1. Ramen burger | Southside Bistro | Sunnybank
If your favourite type of men is ramen, then have we got a treat for you. Along with all the uni students over the years, ramen has graduated from a 99c meal into a pork belly burger that will send you oodles for noodles.
#2. Waffle tacos | Sweet Wrapture | Various
Stuff a waffle then stuff your face with Nutella, whipped cream, Oreos, snickers, and caramel sauce, wrapped in sweet, sweet dough. Hell if the rapture is going to be this good – sign us up!
#3. Tacos | Chingon | CBD
We Mexi-can’t choose just one taco off this list of authentic hand held feeds – so we suggest picking four and stuffing your face until you can’t even fit in a sip of your margarita.
#4. When Life Gives you Apples | Greenhill | Petrie Terrace
Apple pie? I think you mean apple ‘hi’. Apple pie moonshine has been blended with spiced honey and apple syrup into a delicious cocktail. Give us a piece, or rather a glass, of this pie.
#5. Twistie loaded frites | Fritzenberger | Petrie Terrace
Chicken salt fries are SO last year. Twistie frites are the future now! Have a freaky Friday at Fritzenberger with their fantastic fries coated in fritzensalt. If your tongue isn’t twisted after that, the fries certainly are.
frose-feature#6. Frose | Alfred & Constance | Fortitude Valley
While we are being unwillingly pulled into the adult world of bills and work, there is one thing we can hold onto for comfort – the slushie. Except now, we can get it in rosé form! Hello even more summer drinking sessions!
#7. Oktoberfest Brisbane | Brisbane Showgrounds | Bowen Hills
Big celebrations, beer and bratwurst are awaiting you at Oktoberfest Brisbane this month! Enjoy it, because it’s the only time of year that everyone’s drunk enough to believe they look good in lederhosen.
#8. Mac ‘n’ cheese pizza | Little G | Dutton Park
MAC ‘N’ CHEESE. ON A PIZZA. It’s all our carb, cheese and mutant food dreams come true. You know you want a slice of this.
#9. Aperol Spritz Bar | Customs House | CBD
The fruity and bubbly Aperol Spitz has not just inspired a pop-up bar in Brisbane’s CBD for the spring – it’s inspired us to finally come out of our wine winter cocoon, and into a spritzy spring!
#10. Caddyshacks Hole-in-One Cocktail | Holey Moley | Fortitude Valley
This mini golf cocktail bar has created a cocktail for the champions (and the losers) – rum and whiskey with a doughnut resting at the brim, complete with lolly bananas on top. When they called it a ‘hole-in-one’, they definitely mean that doughnut going into our mouths in one go. Happy eating! Words by Kate Stevens
