A new venue from the team behind Nantucket Kitchen & Bar and NKB Express in Indooroopilly, Nickel is all set to land on Friday 29 April (just in time to put on a boozy Mother’s Day brunch, hint hint) on Ann Street, just down from the hustle and bustle of Brunswick Street. And with everything from champagne breakfasts to boozy desserts on the menu, you’ll want to get in and check out the latest addition to the family soon. nickel fortitude valley bars 2 Step inside the doors and you’ll find yourself swept away to a golden age when the Orient Express was the height of luxury, with a moody, sophisticated interior adorned with leather booths, dark timbers and black and white photos on the walls. Hanging from the ceiling is the focus point of the whole venue – a stunning chandelier made from, wait for it, wine glasses. The retro inspiration doesn’t stop at the décor though, with a whole lot of eats and drinks that will have any baby boomers thinking fondly back to their childhood. Simple dishes are crafted to perfection, including bar snacks like prawn cutlets with tartare sauce, spanner crab cakes and savoury flat breads to pair with the many wines peeping out of the impressive wine library. nickel fortitude valley bars 3 If you’d prefer to sit down to a meal, you can tuck into comfort foods like herb crusted rack of lamb with ratatoullie, wild mushroom tagliatelle, and grass fed eye fillet, matched to sides like crispy potatoes and truffled parmesan fries. Just make sure you leave room for dessert, because with sweet treats like chocolate and whisky tart with blood orange sorbet, you don’t want the comfort feeds to end at the main. And those boozy breakfasts we mentioned? Think crispy honey roasted chicken with bacon and chive waffles, flank steak with fried egg, bearnaise and fries and a half avocado bowl with cannellini beans and pine nuts, which you can nibble while you sip mimosas and bellinis after 10am on weekends.
