Sip and sup at the Hops and Vines Festival

The arrival of spring means plenty of things: finally being able to wear shorts again, discovering with horror that you no longer fit it into your shorts (it happens to us all), and the glee of being able to say ‘winter is coming’ again prime among them. But best of all, it means the Hops and Vines Festival is hitting East Brisbane with craft beers, boutique wines and gourmet food. Taking over The Shafston Hotel and its laneways on September 5, Hops and Vines is set to be a street festival of epic proportions, featuring a whole lot of brews, sips, food trucks and tunes. Welcoming spring with gourmet street food instead of the traditional maypole, the festival will be filled with the aromas of Mangia Mangia’s Italian delicacies, The Bone Lorry’s burgers and ribs and the creamy goodness of The Cheese Pleaser, as well as plenty more. As if that’s not enough food-baby inducing goodness, the good folks at The Shafston Hotel will also line your stomach with wood fired pizza and even more delicious cheese. hops and vines 2‘But why would I need to line my stomach?’ we hear you ask. Because on entering the festival, you’ll be presented with your very own festival-branded wine glass, with which you are invited to enjoy two wines from several of the local boutique wine brands exhibiting on the day. With no less than 29 vineyards showing off their drops, we doubt that two tasters will be enough to help you decide which wine you want to stick with, but thankfully you’ll have the whole afternoon to continue sampling and decide which is your favourite. Not a wine lover? Perhaps the hoppy goodness of Newstead Brewing Co, Green Beacon, Fortitude Brewing and James Squire will tempt you instead. hops and vines 3 As for the tunes, the chilled out musical talents of Tyrone Noonan Band, Fader, Mason Rack Band, The Hayden Hack Infusion and Willy Angelo will be there to entertain, and possibly inspire some merlot induced dance moves. Bask in the spring sunshine from 11am-10pm and welcome the warm weather back to the Sunshine State the right way, with a glass full of booze and a lap full of food. $10 tickets to the event include your take home wine glass and two wine tastings and will be available at the door.
