Rogue Bar + Bistro launch new winter menu

  • Food & Booze
Tucked away in an industrial street in Newstead, Rogue Bar + Bistro celebrated the launch of its new Autumn/Winter menu last week with the who’s who of Brisbane’s foodie scene. The astroturfed outdoor front bar features beer taps at head height, with the bartenders pulling icy cold schooners of golden ales through seemingly invisible beer lines. Our first tid-bit for the evening was the ocean trout tartare with dill crème fraiche in a sesame waffle cone, delightfully matched with a mandarin mojito: a tasty mix of Havana Club, mint, lime, lemonade and mandarin sorbet. This combo would have pleased the crowd all night, given the chance! The open kitchen lets guests watch chef-owner Dan and his slick team hard at work plating their whimsical creations beneath the hanging copper feature heat lamps. A clean, minimalistic interior with black and white decor offsets the beautiful courtyard area with draped fairy lights dangling above the outdoor seating like a twilight garden party. Make sure you visit the bathroom out the back to check out photos of the venue as an old Queenslander before the renos. We were treated to the smooth tunes and vocals of Mark Lowndes as we nibbled and drank our way through the four-course tasting menu. Standout savoury of the evening was definitely the shepherd’s pie with braised lamb shoulder encased in buttery pastry and topped with creamy Paris mash. The dessert cocktail of the evening, the ‘Twizzler’ was the highlight of the drinks selection, featuring a heavenly combination of white crème de cacao, Chambord (my fave!), milk chocolate and Sambuca. Rogue’s clever layout and flowing indoor-outdoor design makes it the perfect location for your next function or event, with easy street parking available right out front.
