Regatta European Laneway | The Gourmand & Gourmet

Regatta European Laneway

Hopping on a plane en route to Southern France sounds doable – uuuntil you remember that you have work, or uni, or kids, or some kind of brutal mix of all three. Don’t you deserve a mock European getaway at the very least? Yes. Yes you do. From May 20 to May 21, The Regatta Hotel will transform part of their venue to resemble a classic, European laneway. The best part? Entry is free. Magnifique!  The culinary festival will tantalise all of your senses. As you walk into the laneway, complete with garden walls and fairy lights, your keen eyes will be drawn to the sight of gourmet food stalls with eats crafted by the hotels Boatshed Restaurant. Stall-wise, you can expect to see signs pointing to charcuterie & cheese, low ’n’ slow station, pizzeria and something sweet (holy cannoli!).  You will be spoilt for choice with over fifty international and local wines including Moët, Penfolds, Robert Channon and Shaw & Smith. With a $30 wine passport (now that’s our kind of passport), you will be able sample any of ten wines available. Wine not try as many as you can psychically handle? As you mill through the venue, you’ll stay cool with blues bands in the Walrus Club, sit and sip around acoustic musicians in the Courtyard and (when/if you’re a bit white girl wasted) get down with DJ’s in the Regatta’s Main Bar. Ditch the kids, ditch the assignments and chuck a sickie – you deserve to enjoy this treasure of a leisurely festival. Words by Nicole Portacha
