Reeling In The Tweed's Best Meals: Tweed Heads Food Festival

We all know that snow is nice (Hello Mt Hotham!) but why travel more than 1000km when just across the border, one of the best winter foodie destinations is happening on the Tweed coast?

Throughout the whole of July, the Tweed and Kingscliff Coast is putting its best food forward with a multitude of events shining the brightest light on the notoriously high-quality produce of the region! Although there are over 30 events for you to get your laughing gear around, we have hand-picked a few of our fav’s for you with something for everyone;


1stJuly – 3pm | Free Entry

Eating food and partying in our pyjamas? Don’t threaten us with a good time! Helping kick off the festival on Sunday 1stJuly, The Surf Club Kingscliff Bar & Bistro are putting on a free event from 3pm with artist FAT ALBERT and Gunter’s Flammkuchen (not pizza, but kind of pizza?) supplying you with some yumminess to keep your fuelled and bogeying well into the night, all in your PJ’S!? Yeah, we’re pretty excited…


13thJuly – 3:30pm | $20

Bastille Day is a day of celebrating all things French and what better way to sink your teeth into the cultural melting pot that is France, than learning how to make traditional buckwheat crepes from Tweed Heads finest, 3 Sea Café. This is open to all ages and promises to be an afternoon of tasting, cooking and the insider know-how of making the best crepes ever. Be sure to book as places are limited!


22ndJuly – 10am | $25

Meet the makers and taste the brews as the guys from Pickled Pig stroll you through their brewery, all while supping on a few coldies and their trademark Jinja Beer. A few snags and a few more beers to wash it down with is exactly what the doctor ordered for you winter getaway (maybe not, but it’s winter and a drinking jacket will certainly stop you from feeling the cold) with a great Australian BBQ to conclude the tour. Beers and a BBQ for $25, yes please.


Every Wednesday in July and Thursday 5th | $119 pp

For the gourmet in all of us, treat yourself to a river cruise and degustation all in one. Mount Warning Tours will have you board the river ferry while they prepare the five-course degustation highlighting the best seafood and local produce of the Tweed Valley all while you sit back, sip a glass or two of Australia’s finest. Take in the beautiful surroundings, glide upstream and slowly graze through the day in true tweed style. Call 0422 405 011 to book.


29thJuly 12pm

With Tourism Australia nominating Tweed Heads as Australia’s Green Cauldron, there is no wonder there is a whole day dedicated to trees! With world heritage rainforests, dramatic mountain ranges and pristine beaches, Tweed Heads are paying their respects back to what the land has given them, with intertwining celebrations with NAIDOC week, this will be an event not to miss. Stay posted for more details!
