Australia’s largest German festival is back to say guten tag! Grab your best lederhosen and dirndl, dust off your stein and get ready for two huge weekends of Bavarian fun, food and brews. It’s time for Oktoberfest Brisbane.

Over 43,000 Bavarian enthusiasts are set to descend on the Brisbane Showgrounds on Oktober 6-8 and 13-15 for the tenth instalment of Australia’s biggest Oktoberfest celebration.

There’s no better place to embrace your inner German! The food alone is worth a visit: chow down on delicacies like pork knuckle, bratwurst, sacher torte and apple strudel. But of course you’re probably most looking forward to the authentic German beer, so sink some of Germany’s most famous brews (all of which conform to Bavarian Purity Law) or take the rare opportunity to sip some of the country’s best wines.

Also not to be missed is the Bavarian Brewing competition! 8 local prominent breweries were invited to compete and produce either a pilsner or marzen style Bavarian beer – brewed the traditional way of course. Festival goers can participate in blind tastings and vote for their favourites!

More than just delicious beers and Bavarian bites, the 4000-square meter Oktoberfest Tent will be host to a line-up of live entertainment including the six-member Oompah band ‘Münchner Buam’, yodeller Heidi and a shoe-slapping, cow-bell ringing performance from the Alpenrosen Dance Group (we’re intrigued).

Also returning are the ever popular Miss Oktoberfest Brisbane and Strongman competitions – are you ready? What better way to finish off the working week than with a stein of hand crafted German beer and a plate of Schweinshaxe, Bratwurst and Sauerkraut in front of you?

Oktoberfest Brisbane is the ultimate Friday “team building activity” (wink) with your work buds – just don’t eat too much before you get on the rides though: they are FREE on Fridays. Prost!

The fun doesn’t have to end there, round off your weekend with a wander through the traditional folk stalls on Sunday, or take the kids to the Kinder Zone.

Buy your tickets before the fest for a sweet online discount – and keep an eye on G&G as we’ll be giving away an epic Oktoberfest Brisbane prize in September!

So practice your best yodel and get ready to stuff yourself silly with strudel and sausage.

Keeping the G&G up to date with all the latest tasty tidbits requires a lot of double lattes and espresso martinis, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are really nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
