Paddington’s newest dining spot

  • Food & Booze
Paddington might be hipster brunch central most weekends, but newcomer Affinity is changing things up with their relaxed fine dining bringing modern Australian and a mix of Asian, Italian and Mediterranean flavours to the food-loving suburb. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday to Sunday, Affinity’s menu is as slick and sophisticated as the café’s interior, but holds a few sweet (and salty) surprises. paddington restaurant affinity 3Almost everything that comes out of the kitchen is made in-house, from the beef and buffalo mozzarella that oozes out of their arancini to the hand-rolled pasta sheets in their lasagne. Even better, there’s plenty of dishes on the menu that cater to the gluten intolerant, so you don’t need to worry about being stuck with a salad. Unless you like salad, of course, in which case the warm duck salad is for you. Head in early for a hearty feed and you’ll soon be taking breakfast a whole lot more seriously than the brunchers nibbling on avocado on toast elsewhere. Eggs are definitely the hero here, and you can have them any way that takes your fancy, whether it’s fried up with crispy bacon, baked in a spicy tomato and chorizo sauce or whipped up in protein-packed egg white omelette. If you’re feeling like you need something sweet to kick-start your day, go for the gluten-free pancake stack, smothered in maple syrup, topped with tangy raspberries and sprinkled with praline dust. paddington restaurant affinity 2Late sleeper? Treat yourself to a long lunch (even better if it’s on a weekday) and feast on antipasto a-plenty with a cheeky glass of wine from the extensive list. For the vegos out there there’s handmade rice paper rolls with a spicy dipping sauce, otherwise you can get meaty with the lamb plait, tender grilled lamb wrapped up in a crisp puff pastry. After sundown, you’ll find moreish masterpieces that will leave you smacking your lips. Start off with seared scallops and peperonata and move onto aubergine lasagne, or head straight for the chicken rouard, a vibrant plate of prosciutto wrapped chicken breast filled with baby spinach and bocconcini. paddington restaurant affinity 4If dessert keeps on calling your name, make sure to finish up with something sweet. The chef’s pride and joy is his chocolate agnolotti, a chocolate pasta, handmade of course, stuffed with white chocolate and strawberry filling and sauced with a warm vanilla cream. Frankly we’d be proud too if we came up with something so delicious. Affinity can be found at 2 Latrobe Terrace, with plenty of parking in the carpark out front (take that city restaurants!). Opening hours are:
  • Tuesday to Thursday: 10am-9pm
  • Friday: 10am-10pm
  • Saturday: 7am-10pm
  • Sunday: 7am-3pm

But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are really nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
