Paddington's new local: Hops Scotch & Beans

  • Food & Booze
Just opened in Paddington, Hops Scotch & Beans is the latest Brisbane venue to pop up that manages to combine two of life’s gifts – brunch and whiskey. And frankly, it’s a trend we’re loving. Who doesn’t want a local they can head into for avo on toast on a Friday morning and then back to for sliders and a tipple that night? In the same family as the much-loved Brew and Little Brew, the café come bar has set up shop just around the corner from The Barracks, in a refurbished old store on Petrie Terrace. By day the menu features all day brunch, with spicy chilli scrambled eggs on rye with crisp kale chips or a brioche breakfast roll version of the old eggs benny and bacon among the deliciously hipster-ish choices. You’ll also find icy cold brew coffee, roasted, dripped and poured in-store using Louie Louie beans, perfect for warm (read: stinking hot) sunny mornings out on their breezy footpath terrace. Those after something less breakfast-like can tuck into a red quinoa salad with honey dressing or crispy skinned salmon with celeriac and kale chips. Superfoods abound in this kitchen! hopsscotchandbeans From 3pm and onwards into the evening, share plates like pulled pork sliders, Spanish meatballs and chicken drumettes take over, matched with local craft beers and specialty spirits (with the emphasis on rum and whiskey, of course). If you can’t take the heat outside on the balmy nights, head into the cool lounge inside where cosy couches face a snug wooden bar. Hops Scotch & Beans is open for brunch Tuesday to Sunday and evening bites and brews Thursday to Sunday.
