Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are coming to town

  • Food & Booze
It’s time to tuck away those iPhones and shimmy into the roaring ‘20s as a whirlwind series of events send Old Government House back almost 100 years. Don’t worry, we won’t save the big ‘who dunnit’ reveal to the end of the piece: the culprit of Brisbane’s up and coming Gatsby-esque events is none other than Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. The popular ABC series will infiltrate the river city like its crime-fighting namesake in a celebration of fashion, art, and all things vintage. As usual (and utterly predictable), we’re craning our heads for a sneak peek of the bites on offer – and things couldn’t look more exciting. While pop-up events will conquer Old Government House throughout the month of July, we’ve spotted a few tastes worthy of the most dazzling flapper dress in your wardrobe. Sunday 24 July will see the lawn of Old Government House transform into a page straight from Gatsby. Sashay down to vintage tunes and a chance to try your hand at swing dancing or complete your ensemble with the finest brooch at the suitcase rummage markets. Of course, all this hubbub is sure to wake a century-old appetite, so remember to pre-order your very own 1920s picnic hamper. No, we’re not talking vegemite sandwiches and lamingtons – today, you’ll shield your vintage clothes from chicken Waldorf baguettes, smoked salmon tarts with dill and capers, and traditional melting moments (of which we probably could eat 1920). Looking to channel your inner Phryne Fisher? If you can holster your excitement ‘til sunset, Friday 15 and 29 July will step back in time with a pop-up speakeasy bar. Along with groovy dance tunes and exclusive access to the costume exhibit, guests can revisit the 20s with classic drinks and finger food. With a champagne cocktail in hand, you’ll be scanning the room to solve the next mystery: what to snack on next. The best news? You might be dancing the Charleston through August if July proves to be a hit! So check out the full event details here and get a wiggle on to the pop-up events that take your fancy!
