Market Stall of the Week: Seasoned Bakehouse

Let’s be honest, we don’t just wander our local markets for hand made soaps and leather goods, it’s as much about all the deliciously sweet baked goods that we can get our hands on. After all, supporting all those local businesses deserves a treat or five. We just tell ourselves we’ll take it home for later, not that it ever lasts the trip home. The Seasoned Bakehouse’s motto of ‘life is short, eat dessert first’ tells you everything you need to know about their goodies and their cheesecakes, slices, muffins, cupcakes and pies will satisfy any sweet tooth. With irresistible cheesecake flavours like apple pie, s’mores, eggnog, and salted caramel and white chocolate, we can never choose just one, so it’s lucky they’re mini-sized. Equally tempting are pies like the cherry frangipane tart and pecan caramel pie and cupcakes that look almost too pretty to eat. The beetroot carrot cupcakes hide a hefty dose of vegetables so well they could please even the fussiest eaters (young and old). If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth or need something less likely to send you into a sugar coma for tea, they’ve got that covered too, with savoury tarts like pumpkin, spinach and feta or capsicum, sweet potato and goat cheese. They even make things easy to calculate if you visit them after a hard day’s work, with a one price fits all of $5. So don’t deny those cravings any longer than you have to and hit up the Seasoned Bakehouse for a twilight treat. You’ll find them at Hawthorne’s Love Your Local Market the first Friday of every month from 4pm to 8.30pm. Words by Jessika Marek
