Market stall of the week: Maleny Cheese

  • Food & Booze
Sweet dreams are made of brie and not even lactose intolerance will keep us away from feta or camembert, especially not when it’s Maleny Cheese’s tasty, locally made versions. This Sunshine Coast hinterland dairy company make their market goodies with milk supplied by the local Maleny farmers for gourmet cheese and yoghurt that’s as fresh as fresh can be. Feta marinated in sundried tomato and olive is one of our personal favourites, as is the triple cream brie that bakes to a perfect, gooey texture in the oven and goes great with a dab of pinot noir on a Friday evening (or Monday, we’re not biased). They do a great quark too, and a creamy yoghurt in an apple and cinnamon flavour (as well as ginger, mango, berry and others) that finishes off a bowl of granola like it was made for it. Their cheddar range is soft and crumbly like cheddar is supposed to be, not like that supermarket kind that slices so perfectly it can’t possibly be natural. It comes in distinctive flavours of chilli-con, Tuscan, smoked, vintage, port and wasabi that you cheddar believe are good on a cracker! And wrapped in their colourful wax they look so cheerful sliced and displayed on a platter that could make any party host look like they actually put some effort into nibbles. Maleny Cheese sells all their products right out of their factory but they also like to spread the dairy love, with market stalls across the South East at markets in Caloundra, Noosa, Yandina and a few more.
