Market stall of the week: Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers

Gnocchi. It’s not quite pasta, not quite dumplings, but those silken smooth pillows of potato are fluffy enough to rest your head on (though we don’t condone testing that out). More importantly, these Italian delights are mobile. That’s right, Brisbanites – the Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers are Australia’s very first gnoccheria (and yes, we can confirm the gnocchi is good enough to say twice). The owners of Benfatti Fine Italian Foods and Grappino Trattoria have teamed up to beat down those carb cravings (it’s OK, we can blame winter) with fresh, homemade gnocchi and a selection of gourmet sauces. Visitors to the market stall can pick up bowls of gnocchi topped with lashings of fresh cherry tomato and olive, bolognese, or rich wild mushroom and truffle sauces. Of course, no Italian meal is complete until you’re full to bursting, so the Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers are practically obligated (if not a little cheeky) to offer you indulgent post-gnocchi trays of Sicilian ricotta cannoli, vanilla bean panna cotta, and traditional tiramisu. We won’t take responsibility for any tiramisu-related highs sending you bouncing though the rest of the markets. Searching for the gnoc-key to beating hunger? You’ll find the Brothers scooping up their goods at the Jan Power’s Markets on Wednesdays in the city, over at Eat Street on the weekends, and at the Milton markets on Sundays.
