Market stall of the week: Carcamo's Gourmet Caramel Apples

Call us gluttons, but to us, there’s something about fruit that screams ‘cover me in chocolate!’ And wandering the rows of fresh fruit stalls on our latest market jaunt, we found someone who feels just the same way. Carcamo’s Gourmet Caramel Apples are plump, juicy granny smith apples packaged up just how they should be – dipped in sugary caramel and coated in couveture chocolate. The master behind this dream come true, Julio Carcamo, cooks up decadent caramel from nothing but fresh cream, butter, cane sugar and vanilla. Fresh apples are then hand dipped in the molten gold, somehow keeping the apples all crisp and tart on the inside, before they are finished with scrumptiously crunchy toppings. The Apple Pie, reminiscent of another way we like our fruit, is smothered in smooth white chocolate and cinnamon sugar. Then there’s the Oreo Apple, rolled in crushed oreo cookies and white chocolate, or the true-blue version of the same, coated in an almost unbeatable layer of smashed Tim Tams. Slice them up for fruity, cocoa bliss. Do they count towards our two a day, do you think? You’ll find Carcamo and his apples at a whole bunch of markets around town, including the Eagle Farm Markets, Jan Power’s at the Powerhouse and the Hawthorne Markets, but check their Facebook page to keep up with their movements.
