210 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley

If you manage to find the dimly lit staircase that takes you up to this bar, you’ll discover a maze of graffiti adorned rooms with a dive bar vibe, complete with pool tables, pallet furniture and retro leather couches. At the bar, simplicity is the name of the game, with one beer, one cider and two house cocktails on tap, plus a red, white and sparkling wine, and a short list of spirits and bottled beers. When you’ve got a meow-tain of hunger after climbing those stairs, wrap your whiskers around gourmet pizzas with toppings like pepperoni, pumpkin and sage or classic margherita, which you can order whole or by the slice.

But on to the best part of the whole bar – The Boiler Room. Behind a non-descript door under a mural of Bill Murray, you’ll find this hidden speakeasy bar, where it’s all about loud jazz, industrial fittings, Chesterfield lounges and a bar menu that centres around a 150 page long cocktail list. 150 pages! Once you’ve somehow settled on just one of the classic or inventive creations, order a charcuterie plate to go with it and settle in for posh night. After work drinks just became a whole lot more stylish – why go to the pub when you could sip sidecar cognac cocktails, nestled in a plush leather armchair, while also munching on proscuiutto?
