Stepping into Baja, the last thing you’ll find is Tex-Mex food. Instead, expect honest northern Mexican fare amped up with seasonal Queensland produce.
With a stunning minimalist interior featuring arched doorways, rattan lighting and a gorgeous pink marble bar you can find Baja in the newly opened FV development on the corner of Alfred and Brunswick streets in Fortitude Valley which is fast becoming a bustling foodie hub.
Baja deviates from other local Mexican joints and really sets itself apart with unique plates like burrata with a smoked-cashew salsa and twice-cooked octopus tentacles coated in ink and burnt jalapeño soy sauce, amongst finger-licking-good tacos with standout fillings including Moreton Bay bug, miso-stewed mushrooms and beer-battered kingfish.
A refined cocktail menu, of course, includes a margarita (with notes of elderflower and Maraschino), with a primarily Australian wine list accompanying Mexican beers and Baja’s own specially brewed lager and pale ale, with a few cheeky small-batch tequilas and mezcals as well.
