Let's taco 'bout Brisbane's tastiest tacos
You have to hand to Mexico – those people really know how to get hands on with their food. Who needs a knife and fork when you’ve got tortillas?
Anyone who can take a whole pile of ingredients that definitely need cutlery and wrap them in carbs to create a fork-free meal gets a big tick in our books. Even if it wasn’t for the guacamole. Whether you like them soft, hard (or in the words of the Old El Paso girl – why not have both?), dripping down your hands juicy or extra spicy hot, let’s taco-bout the best Brisbane spots to tuck into a taco or three. After all, you can’t be unhappy eating food that’s shaped like a smile!
Comuna Cantina | CBD
If Comuna Cantina has taught us anything, it’s that one taco is never enough. Have juan, have two, have some more – with five kinds of tacos to eat your way through, you’ll have to come back for more! If you feel like getting messy, order a DIY tacos board, and start assembling!
Brewski | Petrie Terrace
More than just beer and burgers (not that we would ever complain about either), Brewski also pumps out killer deconstructed tacos! Choose between 10hr apple wood house-smoked brisket, salt bush lamb or pulled jack fruit with salsa vierge, avocado and chilli.
El Torito | West End
Each order of El Torito’s authentic tacos greets diners with two soft tortillas topped with beans, grilled chicken, beef, or al pastor – a type of shredded meat that will force you to noticeably drool in a public place. And while we walk in chanting the mantra of ‘two is enough,’ we just Mexican’t say no.
Mucho Mexicano | South Brisbane
You’ll find this taco spot right in the heart of South Brisbane, but we recommend parking in West End to walk off the food baby. The tacos at Mucho Mexicano are stuffed with fillings so good we can’t sombrero it, from sticky wagyu beef to grilled octopus or haloumi with pumpkin. Our prediction? You will get mucho messy.
Red Hook | Brisbane CBD
What do Chinese and tacos have in common? Not much, except when you walk down Gresham Lane, pop into Red Hook and discover the peking duck taco. With slaw, fried shallots and Hoi sin sauce it’s definitely worth ducking in for!
Bloodhound Bar | Fortitude Valley
Trust a bloodhound to sniff out some of the best tacos in town! With flavours like orange and achiote pulled pork shoulder, dark beer braised shredded beef and grilled artichoke heart – these are not your standard El Paso tacos! Cruise by on a Tuesday for 2-4-1 tacos and grab a beer with the money you saved!
Shady Palms | Stones Corner
One visit to Shady Palms in Stones Corner and you’ll never leave the ‘burbs again. Find yourself a spot amongst the mismatched furniture and tuck into a cold brew and a few of their soft tacos all served up with black bean salsa, spicy slaw, chimichurri and curried mayo. Our pick is the pulled beef brisket – yum!
Let’s taco’ bout Mex, baby.
