June bucket list | The Gourmand & Gourmet

June bucket list

What’s cooler than being cool? Not winter in Brisbane, that’s for sure.

Besides missing out on the sting of sub-zero temps (yet still being able to pull off a killer sneans and denim jacket combo), us Queensland city slickers have a lot to look forward to this June.

Start hatching this month’s social plan of attack with the likes of exclusive chef dinners, a Gluten Free Expo, and kickass cocktails (or more so kicking ass with the assistance of cocktails) lined up across Brisbane!

Strangers’ Dining Room | CBD

Hey, stranger. Queensland Parliament is doing Brisbane a solid by opening their longstanding restaurant to the public every Friday from June 21! Rally your work gang, because a new Sometimes Strangers lunch service will be available from 12pm, offering a set three-course menu sporting everything from pan-fried Mooloolaba prawns to tarragon and ricotta tortellini with smoked Maclean’s Forest mushroom casserole and Mt Tamborine tilsit. Book your spot by emailing function.bookings@parliament.qld.gov.au or call on 3553 6377.

Negroni Month | Riverbar & Kitchen | Eagle Street Pier

The one, the Negroni – Riverbar & Kitchen. Celebrate Riverbar’s fourth annual Winterfest with a monthlong celebration fuelled by next level Negronis! Available every day, get around icy Frogroni (frozen Negroni), a champagne-spiked Supergroni, a bittersweet sour Negroni, and hot mulled Negroni. If that wasn’t good enough, pair your sip(s) of choice with a stellar Italian-inspired menu, and live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Delish.

Kobe @ Kennigo | Spring Hill

Kobe for precision, yeet for distance, and meat for days. Kobe @ Kennigo is Kennigo Social House’s epic June special, letting cultured carnivores get their mitts on premium Master Kobe rib fillet with a mouthwatering Japanese marble score of 11+ served with fried oyster mushrooms, bresaola croquettes, broccolini, rosella jam, and rich red wine jus. Might wanna book that table here before stock runs out.

Red Fish Blue Fish | One Fish Two Fish | Kangaroo Point

It’s baaaack! One Fish Two Fish’s second Red Fish Blue Fish dinner falls on June 26, seeing head chef Daniel Miletic and local chef Philip Johnson take to Kanga Point’s already iconic kitchen to create coastal European delights paired with a pink peach spritz. Come for the spanner crab linguine, stay for the razor prawn ravioli, and don’t forget to book your spot here (where you can also find complete set menu deets).

World Fish ’N’ Chip Day | One Fish Two Fish | Kangaroo Point

Oh, we’re not done with One Fish Two Fish… and you won’t be either. Honestly, the best vacays in life revolve around food, and World Fish ’N’ Chip Day is no exception. Celebrate on June 7 (and until June 9) with OFTF’s seafood banquet special, including plates of panko-crumbed mahi mahi, battered cod with vinegar and mushy peas, decadent finger sandwiches filled with barramundi and bacon, grilled prawn bao, and their famous chips served with secret curry sauce! One, two, book.

Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival | Eagle Farm Racecourse | Ascot

Horses and courses are set for TAB Stradbroke Day – Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival’s 10/10 day out. On June 8, Eagle Farm Racecourse will be turning it up and out with Guy Sebastian performing live, five hours of bottomless French champagne, and eats from Black Hide steakhouse. What’s not to love? Race this way for more info and ticket details.

Gluten Free Expo | Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

The best things in life are gluten-free, or so you’ll be lead to believe after spending two days at Brisbane’s Gluten Free Expo! From June 15-16, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre will  showcase GF eats from snacks to substantials to sweets in between cooking demonstrations and tips from expert dieticians. Embrace your intolerance and find out more here.

PB Espresso Martini | Piano Bar | South Bank

Swap the daily grind for Piano Bar’s signature grind – the PB Espresso Martini. This little beauty is built from Absolut Vanilla, Brookie’s MAC, sugar syrup, espresso, macadamia foam and wattleseed – and you’ll be kickstarting June in the most delicious way possible.

Self Defence in the City | Darling & Co. | Paddington

It’s all about confidence, baby, and you’ll have plenty of that after Self Defence in the City! This unique self defence class will be paired with plenty of cocktails on June 21, with safety experts giving you the 411 on how to get home safely at night (think of the money you’ll save on Uber trips). Find out more and book tickets here.

El Chapo Burger | Fat Belly Jack’s | CBD

Another month, another special. Fat Belly Jack’s is one of the biggest names in Brisbane’s burger scene right now, and it’s not hard to see why after unbeatable specials keep hitting the menu. Available until June 13, you can experience the El Chapo Burger with Doritos-crumbed fried chicken, Mexican mac & cheese, fresh roquette and sour cream aioli. We’ll take ten.

So much to eat, so little time (but we’ll make it work).
