Hello? New decade? Give us the best you’ve got.
Hotter days call for cooler drinks, longer lunches and as many pool parties as you can fit in a month, and January is serving up all of these and more.
A pearl in Kangaroo Point, One Fish Two Fish has been dishing out hit after hit with successful spritz lunches and chef collabs. In January it’s all about the oyster, with the launch of their inaugural Oyster Frenzy event! Between 12pm-pm on January 24, 25 and 26, get the gang together to enjoy 18 oysters over six courses, showcasing a unique flavour combo in each course. From classic natural Pacific oysters to baked three-cheese, and dressed with limoncello and finger lime caviar or chardonnay mignonette granita , it’s a no brainer where you’ll be long lunching on the long weekend. Bookings are essential, and can be made here.
The only appropriate way to start a new year is with a new bar, and this one has us just a bit excited. Setting up shop in Newstead, Commercial Road Public Bar is set to be the newest neighbourhood wine bar, offering drops from boutique local suppliers, to more niche varietals including biodynamic, organic and natural wines. There’ll be a big focus on family, with the space being casual and inviting, whilst still bringing its own personality to town. A European-influenced snack menu will treat patrons to the likes of charcuterie, salads, stone-baked pizzas and delicious pastas. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled on their socials for more opening details!
Embrace the heat at Riverbar and Kitchen as their Hello Summer event continues in January. With the cooling breeze blowing off the Brown Snake, sit back and watch Brissy do its thang with a coldie in hand thanks to 4 Pines. With live music, tasty fare and icy cold drinks, Riverbar and Kitchen is keeping it cool this January.

If the silly season has left your bank account a bit of a joke, you don’t need to be a recluse this January with many fabulous free events around town! Mosey on down to Howard Smith Wharves to get around their weekends on the lawn from 4pm every Saturday and Sunday in January. Whether you’re completely skint and just here for the live music and lawn games, or ready to splurge on a cheeky Felon’s brew and tasty pizza, there’s something for all budgets that will still have you enjoying your January.
Because it’s just a tad warm in Jan, it’s only fitting that we Brisbanites find as many pools as possible to cool down in, so when XCargo announced their pool club series we were absolutely pumped. Taking over the Valley destination every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 8pm, get ready to go from day to night in this infamous shipping container hotspot. Book a day bed with access to the private pool club bar, or get a bit boujee with a cabana, which includes bottle service and your own waiter, and get ready to party the summer away.
If these tidbits are anything to go by, 2020 is shaping up to be an absolute banger.
