How to make your own healthy Nutella

Nutella! We love it on our toast, in pastries, thrown in a shake or just straight from the jar, but it’s no secret that although ridiculously delicious, it’s full of sugary nasties that we probably shouldn’t be indulging in on a weekly (ok, maybe daily) basis. Before you start worrying about how on earth you’ll kick your hazelnut habit, check out this recipe from My Food Religion and breathe easy knowing that we’re found a substitute that’s equally as delicious AND guilt-free! This version is minus all the sugar, but if stevia isn’t sweet enough for you, you can add a tablespoon (or 3) of maple syrup or agave to give it that extra treat-worthy taste.

  • 200g shredded coconut
  • 200g roasted hazelnuts
  • 2 tbs raw cacao
  • 1 tbs cinnamon
  • Pinch of stevia (optional)
1. Blend coconut in a food processor until it forms a paste. Add hazelnuts and continue to blend until it combines like the consistency of nut-butter. 2. Add cacao, cinnamon and stevia and blend for about another minute. Done! 3. If you’re wanting a not-Nutella bark, pour the spread into a dish and allow to set in fridge. Get ready to go nutty!
