Shift worker, office worker or penniless university student sponging off your parents, some days are just better than others – namely the days when you don’t have answer to anyone, boss, teacher, or otherwise. But over at Newstead, there’s a Brisbane bar for burgers and brews where there’s no such thing as a bad day, or even a meal out that doesn’t match your budget.
So next time your facing a bad case of Mondayitis, or just feel the need to make a nest somewhere where there’s no one asking you to do the damn dishes, fly over to The Defiant Duck – they’re ready to welcome you with open wings.
You’ve had a big weekend already, and with your pounding head and pile of washing to do, you should just spend Sunday at home, right? Duck no! What you need is some good old hair of the dog, in the form of a sparkling Aperol Spritz and some mac ‘n’ cheese croquettes while live music plays in the background to ease your pain. Then hit the pool tables to decide once and for all who’ll be getting the next round.
Three nights out in a row was too much for you and all you want to do on Monday is make like you’re a duck in a pond (head down, tail up)? We say shake your tail feathers to the Duck for $12 Philly cheese steaks with any drink instead. Better yet, drag two friends along, convince them to foot the bill for a Philly each, and you’ll get yours for free! Just put it on our bill.
‘Is it pay day yet?’ we hear you saying. Nope, sorry, we can’t miraculously make the accounting department fill your bank account early – but we can tell you where to get a ducking cheap feed. Get a burger, fries AND a soft drink for $15 every Tuesday! Trust us, it’s a quacker of a deal (but no actual duck burgers, soz guys).
No matter what kind of week you’ve had so far, there’s no need to write it off as a clusterduck just yet. Especially not when you can grab a rump steak with a side of chips for $14. Amiright, or amiright?
So you finally got paid. Duck. Yeah. And then your rent came out. And then the phone bill arrived. And then you smashed said phone and had to replace it. And then… well we won’t go on. But wait, there is a lily amongst the pond weed! Because the Duck dishes up three tacos for $10 every Thursday – waddle over for pulled pork and quack on about your troubles no more.
Friday & Saturday
It’s finally the weekend and you’re ready to get loose as a goose, wait, duck. Speaking of which, how do geese get loose anyway? But we’re getting off track – we were talking about booze not birds! Specifically, wine, cocktails, tap beers and jugs, all the sips you’ll find on The Defiant Drink’s list, to pair with live footy on the big screens and some ducking good drinking food.
There’s no need to quack up a fuss about what you’re going to do this week or which Brisbane bar you’re going to go to when you’re set every day at The Defiant Duck

Keeping the G&G up to date requires a lot of double lattes, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
